Roof top tent sizing

Considering a rooftop tent for my 99. Ideally, I would still like to use the sunroof but also want to make sure it's comfy up there.

Specifically looking at the CVT MT Hood with double channels. Does anyone have the 56 version on their 3rd gen?

You'll be able to use the sunroof with any RTT, it still opens, it'll just be blocked by the tent.

I used to have this RTT on my 2000

it was fine and we used it a ton in the 2 summers I had it. I upsized to a larger tent on a different truck. but it was fine. There are a lot of mounting options so now days so it should be easier. Mounting is always a pain.

The one thing I would say about a clamshell (and the reason I did not go with one) is your competing with the rear hatch. when I'm camping I use the rear hatch all the time and it would just be a pain to deal with that and the ladder in your way all the time.

Nice. CVT tent has a moveable ladder with a couple entrances so the hatch situation wouldn't be a problem.

Mainly wondering if 56" is too big for the 4 runner.

I reached out to CVT and did some measurements. Not sure if 56" would work or the length of the tent at 85"

I'll should hear from them shortly.

I ran a 55” tent (1.4m) for a few years and then moved up to a 63” (1.6m). The 1.6 just starts creeping over the sunroof, but not by much and it still functions fine.
