You definitely used to have a factory rack. If they left the holes open it would leak into the interior.

Be careful you don't damage the headliner by dripping acetone on it. You might try scraping the top of the rivnut with a razor blade and then taking a pocket screwdriver to try to unscrew the rtv from the threads. You might get lucky

I would use a sharp exacto knife, cut out as much of the sealant inside the threads as I could and find a bolt to do the rest of the work.

Or buy another truck. Might be easier.

My plan would be to cut/pick as much out as possible, then use a tap to finish the job/clean up the threads.

Not interested in buying a tap? Cut a couple relief grooves in the right sized bolt, you just want a"sharp" edge to scrape the threads and someplace for the RTV to go once loose. In and out just a turn at a time, pick/vacuum out whatever comes loose each time.

Just labor intensive, not hard.

I have a hunch the previous owner had an aftermarket rack on it. I see 6 holes on one side, and I know the factory rack is held on by only 5 torx bit screws per side. That last hole (one closest to front of truck) looks a smidge bigger than the factory rack thread holes. I'm interested in what you uncover. Keep us updated.

Turns out taking out silicone was super easy, took about 10 seconds per thread with a box cutter..

the install went smoothly and got to use the basket on a 400mile trip to north florida where we packed the crap out of the car 1000lbs+

Operatoin roof rack/basket successful.
