All the air goes through there. The blend door for inside/outside is above the filter if I'm looking at it correctly.
In any case, it takes longer to remove all the crap from the glovebox of my wife's Subaru than it did to install this filter. I spent more time cleaning all the baked on crap on the fins of the fan.
I am placing an order for 30 more of these this week. If anyone wants to pre-order I will accept payment now.

I just heard back from my overseas builder. He has revamped the design and it now has 200 percent more filter area. The new batch will run a bit more.
I will update the main post with pictures of the updated filter soon.

Like any cabin air filter it would depend on conditions (dusty, etc.). It looks like similar construction to a basic air filter and the updated design, having more surface area, should help it last longer. I'd guess it's something to change yearly?
The fan is held in with three screws and the filter pops into the box above the fan. I'm going to guess a 20 minute job to install but we'll see.

You got it sir. I would plan to spend about 20-30 on the first install, including cleaning the blower fan.
Simply blowing mine out did not remove all the gunk. A spray bottle with a few drops of Dawn and Vinegar and a ToothBrush was used to remove all the baked on crap. My air is fresh and clean now after removing the carpets and scrubbing them by hand with Dawn/Vinegar solution.
My next big cleaning job is to actually get at the Evaporator behind the dash. The amount of dog hair I removed from the carpets leads me to believe the Evaporator is probably quite dirty.

My bad. I thought it was just to filter the fresh air intake. It does filter both the cabin and fresh air.

I'm a bit confused so could someone please explain to me how this works exactly? We all know our 3rd gens didn't come with an in-cabin air filter, did some Russian Surf models come with one, or did some guy in Russia design and make this? Are the mount and filter separate pieces? Can just the filter be replaced, if so is it an off-the-shelf filter or will it need to be custom ordered from Russia? Is the filter washable? Where does this get installed exactly? Would installing one require me to make permanent modifications to my air vents? How effective is it? How noisy/noticeable is it? How hard would it be to remove/reinstall it should it need servicing?
Thanks.

1. It's an off the shelf filter media that's standard issue for many cars, with 3d Printed Housing.
2. It installs above the Blower Fan in the opening.
3. You replace the whole unit, filter and all.
4. No additional noise.
5. 10 minutes to replace. Total of 7 screws including the sill trim/kick plate.
6. 0 Modification is required for install. You remove the blower fan, pop in the filter, and re-install the blower fan.

Charcoal filter an option? I know it helps with other vehicles where I've done this.
And maybe I'm being dense, but I see 2 possible options from the information as presented:
A: you have to replace the whole thing (3d printed part and all)
B: the 3d printed part remains and it's just the commonly available filter that's replaced.
If A, I'll pass... pockets are not deep enough to toss $30/year at a cabin filter for a vehicle that only sees maybe 5k miles. If B and the filters are in the normal $10~15 range, I'm in for one.

Agreed.
@ shadow247
can you clarify? Is it A, or B? Thanks!
