Issues When Turning

Hello,

Just noticed yesterday some issues come up when turning the wheel. The wheel seems to vibrate and make a hum. Just tonight, however, I have noticed a metal sound when turning the wheel. Along with this I have noticed the power steering fluid to be low as well. I believe I have a leak. The leak seems to be right above the steering rack.

Thanks!

Hello fathousecat,

I think you have answered your own question here. Sounds like you have a power steering leak and it has leaked long enough to potentially have damaged the power steering pump. You could pull back the boots on your steering rack and see if your shaft seals are leaking. If so, you will most likely be best off to replace the rack. The power steering pumps are pretty tough but in the past I have had one that was too far gone and had to replace it. Fill it back up with fluid to the proper level and see if the system works as it should. The fluid will obviously leak out again. The vibrating is air in the system and the metal sound I would guess is a lack of lubrication in the pump.

Hope that helps some.
