Yesterday night, in preparation for doing my exhaust manifold swap, I unbolted my cruise control manifold to get access to the manifold. I then put everything back together because the next morning I had to drive my sister to work.
This morning as I was driving her to work, my gas pedal started behaving strangely. At one light I almost stalled and I had a weird sensation in the pedal, but I suspected it was just a bad start. At another light I felt the gas pedal bind then it would suddenly free itself when I pushed down a bit more, causing the car to lurch or accelerate way too quickly. The issue started happening at every red light. This problem was so bad that at one light I had to press the pedal so hard that once it freed itself I was nearly at redline.
Needless to say my sister was very happy to get out of the car when I dropped her off. I opened the hood in a near by autozone parking lot to see what was the matter. The only thing I did was clip the accelerator cable
back into a little bracket, and that completely fixed my issue. The cable didn't deviate all that much from its original route, but it was enough to make the car dangerous. The hose that surrounds my throttle cable is cracking from age, so that likely played a role, and it might need lubrication.
If you ever move around the throttle cable, make sure you clip it back into place before driving the vehicle. Its not a vacuum hose or hydraulic hose, deviating the path the cable hose even a little can have dangerous consequences (especially if the system isn't in perfect condition)
