If it has a CARB number on it, and is certified for your specific engine family it should pass. Is your rig CA or 49 state emissions?

Hey There,
I believe at one time i was told that it's a California emissions. I don't know how to tell myself. Is it hard to determine?
Thanks.

I think it says on a sticker on the hood but also if you get underneath and check if you have 2 catalytic converters (CA spec) or one (fed spec)

There should be an emissions sticker stuck to the underside of the hood.

Having two O2 sensors isn’t the way to tell.

Federal and California emissions will both have two sensors. Federal has one catalytic converter and california has two catalytic converters.

I'll have another look under the hood then. Like i said i was told that by someone who knows more than me.. I'll have a look for the sticker. I'll report back with my findings.

Thanks.
Put your VIN into Toyota's official vehicle spec website, Vehicle Specification | Toyota Owners, and see if it tells you anything.

When I put in my VIN, I can see "RE 48 STATE EMISSIONS" under the "PORT OR FACTORY INSTALLED EQUIPMENT" section.

Looks like you have CA spec. I have a 49 state vehicle registered in CA with no issues smogging, but that still has the OEM cat.

The CA emissions vs Federal emissions labelling is inconsistent. You can put a CARB (California smog approved) cat on a Federal emissions 4Runner, and a Federal emissions cat on a California emissions 4Runner. I live in California but drive and own a Federal emissions 4Runner which passes smog with a CARB approved Magnaflow cat with no issues whatsoever. Confused yet?

Just buy what's cheapest and allowed by your state. Last I looked, NY has adopted the CARB standards so I believe that means you would need a 50-state catalytic converter.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. I was just doing some "pre research" I don't know for sure if it is in fact the CC I was preparing for the worse. It sort of looks like the worse might not be so bad.
I crawled around under there and i swear i saw only one CC and a rusted sensor. Lets say i did have 2 CC'S would they both follow down the passenger side? I had the MF Overland installed in August
so if i did need a CC i would go with the MF.
Thanks.
