Sliders are not all that complicated. Start with some square tube if you like that style, get some 3/4 inch square plates for the frame attachments, and bust out the welder and bandsaw. I feel like you could build a set like this in an afternoon if you are handy with a welder.
I used Rustoleum Hammered Matte Black to paint my 4xInnovations sliders. Seems to hold up decently enough, and it's cheap to just touch it up after every wash and keep them looking brand new!
