Interesting I've often thought about trying to mount gauges in part of the din slot once I switch to a single din
What are you thinking about mounting?

I’ve seen these for newer Tacomas and FJ’s and wondered how we could integrate something similar into a 3rd gen without it bolting to the flimsy bezel plastic or drilling into the dash somewhere. What are your thoughts on mounting? I’ll be following the progress on this one closely.

I've got a small bracket that mounts there on one side to the radio bolts and it vibrates to the point of being basically unusable especially with a tablet. Attaching on both side is probably much better. I can't remember who made the bracket and I've tried shims and things but it still vibrates. It acts like a tuning fork tine on dirt roads. I have another ram mount base bolted to underside of the dash where it starts swooping up over the gauges and it's actually much more solid, I can have a tablet on 4" arm no prob. I spent ages trying to figure out where to mount stuff I'm not sure there is a correct answer. Curious to see how your setup works for you.

The modular panel is for phone, mics and ect. I haven't tested yet for a iPad, but it will use a ram ball mount for attachment. It will be screw in thru to the bezel, behind all the prehole there are room for the screws without interference to anything behind the center bezel. Cupholder 96-98 will be unless with this modular panel.

Here is a modular panel from Ohana Rig Supply, it will be a very similar setup as this. This setup use screws to bolt in or adhesive and it hold just fine. I use this setup in my wife Gx470. This setup for the 3gen 4runner should be just as rigid as anything out there.

I'm certainly interested if you offer this for sale! Designing something like this has been on my list for some time.

How’s the hand access?
With the On X announcement of apple car play support, I’m kinda torn…. The placement is lower is the only thing. It’s nice to have the NAV in my field of view with the windshield.

You know though, the Placement looks solid on this piece.
With a longer ram mount arm, and say a newer iPhone or iPad mini, will the bezel hold up to solid off-road bump abuse? I probably drive faster than I should sometimes
My ideal scene would be getting the nav up as high as possible without obstruction of view. Currently I use a window ram mount to the right of rear view mirror. Placement works very well, the issues are I have a cord hanging down by my wife since OnX does pull the battery down hard, it messes with my sunshade, and it’s one more step for me to detach to take the phone with me for family photos and all the cool stuff I find off the beaten path.

I really want to move on from my Ram mounts in the Paranoid Fab bracket. Too much wobbling and extensions to get the phone where I want it.
Is your mount too wide for the dash bezel trim if it was moved down a few inches? I know it narrows as it goes towards the bottom of the bezel. If your mount was in between the HVAC and radio you’d have an unobstructed windshield and keep the vents and clock unblocked also when there’s a device mounted. Or maybe it would have to go further down than that to make that possible, IDK. I guess no matter where it’s mounted, something’s getting blocked a little. I’d be interested in an alternate version, or perhaps there’s room to move it down and shape the mount down a little where needed…

I built this a few years ago and has worked wonderfully for me. The iPad Mini and the iPhone I use to mount here do wobble a bit when on rough roads, but I am good.
I would love to have one of these, but don’t have a need at the moment. Too bad too because I bought the molle panels that sit on either side of the shifter console that would almost tie in with this.
