The only stripes etc that would look good to me would be the old classic 80s decals that were on the toyota pickups back then. Those patterns of the stickers in my opinion would look great on the 3rd gen 4 runners. Giving it the retro look of the first gens. ;)
It's a Dodge-esque strobe striping with a rally type center panel.
Do it with decals before commiting to paint unless you're willing to repaint the entire truck if it doesn't work out.

I'm looking at replacing this hood anyway so I thought what the hell. I'll probably do it in Plasti dip first though. Working on a "Paint" version real quick, maybe get more feed back.
Looks to me like you're overthinking this. Personally, I think retro 80s decals would be a step in the right direction. Either way, though, I definitely would NOT do this with paint -- decals are a much better option
