toyota #11193-70010 spark plug tube seals

i'm getting parts for a tune up on my 4runner and i was wondering if these can be replaced when you change spark plugs, or if the valve cover has to be removed. thx any advice would be appreciated

I believe you need to remove and install them from inside the cover.

Yup, those get installed by pressing in from the backside of the valve cover once removed.
Usually done when replacing valve cover gaskets.
Perfect time to replace PCV & grommet as well.

The spark plug tube seals are installed from the inside of the valve covers. You don’t need to bend the retainer up tabs either to install them. I have no idea why Toyota recommends that, totally unnecessary.

I did a set last week, lubricate the seals with motor oil and they pop right in, finish setting them with a socket.
