Hours to drop x Mission pan Troubleshoot..

Having Transmission issues I might have to have my shift/transmission solenoid replaced. I'm Failsafe mode with only 2nd and 3rd available.

I'm being told 3 hrs to TS/install does this sound right?
Thanks.

3 hours would be right if I were doing it at home. 1 hour to change the solenoids and then 2 hours to clean up the huge mess of fluid everywhere!

It's about 15 bolts, and one gasket. Not exactly a hard job so if a shop is asking 3 hours book time it's a bit much. OEM Toyota solenoids work best but aftermarket ones work in a pinch. It's just a solenoid that takes a 12V signal so not exactly hard to duplicate.

Thanks for the reply.
It's the Dealer so i guess I'm in the ballpark. I didn't even know the truck had a "failsafe mode" I thought she was a tad sluggish.

They're probably just giving themselves a bigger window than necessary, when I went to Toyota for a trans flush they told me it would be 2-3 hours only to call me after 50 minutes. Probably just allotting themselves extra time to move vehicles and whatnot
If there's a bar nearby, who cares?

Never been in Bar during the daylight hours... hahaha

But there is a nice lake within walking distance Rod and a tacklebox i'm good to go.

As long as those number are within normal limits It's going to be an $800 repair. I still love my truck.

when my trans took a dump over the summer it was a total of 30 min to drop the pan and change all 3 solenoids. wound up needing a rebuild and that was 2500 with warranty if you werent at the wrong end of the state I could do it for $140 plus parts so around 200 or so

Thanks for the offer!! Mighty kind of you.
I guess when you drop the pan it's best to change all of the solenoids while it's down. I Just Hope the Transmission isn't in pieces.

They told me they will drop the pan and see what doin.. if there aren't any chunks in there then they're good to go with the solenoids.. if it's chunky(metal parts) then button it back up and now i have a new decision to make.

When your Transmission went what was it not doing? or doing poorly?
Thanks for the reply.

was on way to a camping trip and after a rather harsh stop and shaky take off felt kinda "off" when I pulled up to the gate it just shut down and would not stay running out of park or neutral. I grenaded my planatary gears, found some nasty chunks in the pan so put the solenoids back into my tool box for another day and shipped her of to the trans shop.
