Is Discount trying to get me to buy wheels?

I just installed a lift and headed over to Discount for a new set of tires. I wanted to go bigger currently I am running the factory wheels with 265/75 16x7 I think they have a 15mm offset. I was planning on putting a set of Sequoia 17x7.5 with a 15MM offset which would tuck a bit more. The guys at discount are saying I can only go as big as 275/70 those wheels because of the offset. They are worried it will hit the upper control arm. Are they just trying to sell me wheels?

On another note, I found a set of BBS FJ wheels but I haven't been able to find specs on them the ad says they are 17x8 with a +5mm offset. I'd really like a reason to buy these...

The wheel isn’t really as much the issue, but more so that the next size up (285/70/17) being a risk of interfering with the UCA unless you run aftermarket UCA’s, wheel spacers or higher offset wheels. Some people get that combo to fit without rubbing, some people don’t. It’s a gamble, so they’re telling you what they know will fit without issues.

The 275/70/17 is roughly inbetween a 265/75/16 and a 285/75/16, so you’re getting a pretty good sized tire in there without pushing the wheels out further. If the 285/70/17 is the size you’re set on, I’d either plan on SPC upper control arms, spacers or a different wheel to avoid fitment issues.

I actually just ordered some JBA UCA! I had it in for an alignment and it looks like one is bent so I figured I'd order some and see if they give me more clearance. I wish those FJ wheels weren't 8in wide...

Off the top of your head, what offset wheel do you believe would work without SPC UCAs for 275/75/17? I may have an opportunity to pick up a set of wheels/tires that were on a Sequoia(?) VERY cheap! I can get the geometry specs-BS, OS, but don't have them yet. I am currently on 265/75/16, 1.25" spidertrax and about 2" lift W/stock UCA. TY

There’s so many threads out there that should have some wheel backspace specs if you’re willing to go down the rabbit hole, although that tire size is a bit less common it seems. I would think a 4” backspace is enough to keep the tire off the UCA. Shouldn’t need crazy 3.5” backspacing to clear a little extra sidewall width.

I had to run 2" spacers to clear the UCAs with 285/70/17 KO2s on Tundra/Sequoia split 5 spokes. I ended up switching to a set of 17x8.5 wheels with -12 offset 4.27 BS and got rid of the spacers.

Thanks guys. I should have looked into the sizing question and was being lazy. I decided not to bother since the wheels are not a style I could live with after I saw a pic.

I didn't really want to go down the custom wheel rabbit hole. I'd like to get the FJ wheels I found but the offset just isn't right.
