aaahh.. the precious LC70...

I would go for the heavy duty 1999 model instead of the prado. Then when the 2014 facelift model becomes possible for importation into the US, you can also get that one. Are there importers there that get the units from the middle east? you can get them with the Aisin Toyota AI-1000 electric winch (8000 lb) as it's relatively common over there plus it's LHD

you can only import a 97 right now.
I'm old and I need to get'er done. importing a truck from japan I'm finding out is not easy. the Japanese auction guys blur the photos so online people can't see the nice trucks. it's not a happy time buy these trucks process. there are a lot of take your money and run people out there. just imagine floating 25K out there not knowing if you will ever see this truck, ever! leap of faith needs to happen.

I have never been able to find anybody who has been able to get nice stuff out of the middle east. maybe because anything that is 25 years or older is blown up? has a machine gun mounted in the back, then gets blown up?

troopy are so rare, people get 50-60K and those are usually pretty beat up.

GWOT has been going for over 20 years…. Good luck finding a 20+ year old truck survive the Middle East.

Yea yea I have seen them all.

Just so you know, you can import stuff into Canada up to 10 years newer than into the US. So guys are buying used trucks or cars and storing them Canada, once they hit the 25 year rule the import them into the US.

I think I’m going to lock this one down tomorrow. Have a call scheduled with them to get it up on lift and do FaceTime so I can at least get a good look at it before burning the wad of cash.

somebody called right before my time and just put down the deposit sight unseen and said I want it! done!

AAAAAHHHHHHH

I put down a deposit with Jdm Importer | United States | The Import Guys and am watching auctions in JP now... so not sure how it will play out. it's a very competitive market.

so far they have been very helpful and have steered me clear of a couple I was considering.

approximately how much would it cost to ship any of those from Japan to USA including customs and duties?

it really depends on the truck. condition, options, lockers ... you know all that stuff.

I will post what it costs me once I find "the one"

a condition 3 or 3.5 (they use a ratings scale) will run about 19-24K USD

then your looking @ the shipping and import fee's so figure 30K USD and up to play this game.

I'm actually starting to kick around the idea of a HZJ73HV as well... they are the shorties. same engine, same pretty much everthing just about 6" shorter wheel base and 300 lbs lighter.

HZJ73HV - Album on Imgur

if you want a prado those things are falling off tree's and they can be had for 20-25K USD all told.

edit: shipping is killing my budget at this point, my luck I would decide to do this at maybe the worst possible time since WWII? shipping is running 3K and up now and rising quickly.

I like that one. Hope you get the ONE!

Is it a US govt reqt that you go thru an importer? I read in the ST205 FB group that in the UK, the buyers can deal directly with the seller in Japan and make the shipping arrangements themselves. Well.. at least that's how I understand their posts
