front wheel bearing replacement

I had a low rumble while driving and when I jacked up the front driver wheel and grabbed the tire at 12 and 6 it would rock a little. I pulled the spindle and took it to a shop to press out the bearing and they said they could not even get the hub out. They have a 20 ton press and he said they bent 1/2 steel plates trying to get it out.

I have taken it to another shop to have the same thing done today. If they also fail what is my next best option? Find a junk yard spindle and call it a day? Try to return my almost $200 in bearing and seal or keep it?

I have a part list at home I can post when I get to said home.

My plan was to convert the front to manual hubs when I needed to do the bearings. Perfect time to do it if you ask me

Oops, sorry I misread that because for some reason on mobile this giant video keeps loading over the first post... I was basically refreshing and trying to read what I could before the video popped up.

But okay yeah that is really weird that it won't press out

Toyota wants me to upgrade to their new 2021 Venza.... Not in this market!

As for the spindle, yeah I would recommend getting a junkyard unit and "rebuild" it with new bearings and hub. Just make sure the spindle you buy at the yard is in great shape with the smallest amount of rust as possible.

So the second place got it out. Charged me $240. We’re gonna have a conversation about the bill. I was expecting like $100

if you want to know what is involved I show the process in this vid

pressing the bearing out is not hard but takes time and know how. obviously the first shop did not take the snap ring out and just hammered away on it? not great.

unless you had a $100 pre-defined arrangement? I would say $240 is a pretty fair price to remove the old spindle, clean, inspect and re-press the new bearing. if you don't have the tools yourself?

The snap ring is under the wheel wheel hub and requires the said to be pressed out before the snap ring is removed and the bearing pressed out. Special attain needs to be paid not to bend the backing plate all to s&^%. I agree the work involved to replace the wheel bearing is well worth 240 especially if things r rusted and require extra attain, I would not touch the job for 100.

$100 for the work is just insulting. What they're shooting you in absolutely fair.
Would YOU have done all this for only $100?
