As I suspected it wouldn't. You could wire a fix if you wanted to, but you would have to access the back of the combination meter and wire a relay and probably a resistor. Most likely more trouble than it is worth, but if you wanted to do it, I could figure it out.

So the indicator worked when you had the drivers wired to the OEM common 12v and lowbeam ground, but now it doesn't work when you grounded the drivers to chassis?

So I thought about this a little more, and its actually quite simple. Follow me by looking at the wiring diagram http://web.archive.org/web/201002030...emci/019hl.pdf
When the headlight relay supplies power to the fuses, both filaments of the headlight have power, but they are each grounded independently. When the switch grounds the high beam filament the high beams are turned on, but the low beam filament still has current flowing through it looking for a ground. It then flows to the junction block through connector 1K, then out through connector 1J terminal 3, but since the switch is no providing ground in the high beam position the low beam is not turned on. The current is still seeking ground so it flows out term 4 of connector 1J and it encounters the High Beam indicator lamp, flows through the lamp and finds ground, which lights the High beam indicator. When you move the ground away from the OEM system, there is no longer current flowing to the indicator lamp.

Unfortunately Alldata unreasonably raised their annual (individual vehicle) subscription renewals and I didn't save my Tundra's headlight diagram, I wanted to compare it to the 4Runner diagram. It's also too damn cold to connect just a bixenon solenoid to verify the indicator works.

For me, to get the high beam indicator light to work, instead of trying to find out which resister worked, and worrying about having a resister overheat, i just used a small light bulb. Basically mimicked how it works for stock with a little current flowing through the regular headlight when the headlight switch is one high. I found if you use too small of a lightbulb the bulb actually lights up and then doesn't flow enough to get the indicator to work. With the correct size bulb, the bulb just flashes for a fraction of second when indicator is switched from low to high, but goes right back off since indicator bulb restricts the current enough it doesn't stay one.

Do you remember what bulb you ended up using?

No, I can't remember off hand. The 4runner is actually in the shop getting a new torque convertor, flex plate and rear main seal installed otherwise I would just go check. Hopefully I will have it back in a few days and I will let you know. I think most automotive lights would work. Back up light, overheard light, brake light, etc. The first bulb I used was very small. It might have been one of the bulbs for the dash, and that was a little too small.
