It's out of the way of the passenger airbag and far enough forward to not impact the defrost capabilities or hit the windshield. Because it was out of a right hand drive Surf I had to modify the base to work with my LHD, and I pulled material off the dash too, for windshield clearance. Once you remove the ductwork the underside of the dash is fairly accessible.

and to balance that out, here's the bracket I started with for the oba. Holes were drilled and grommets added, brackets for the compressor's feet were made, vents were modified (first the original, then one out of an 01)...like a lot of my projects it's made up of mostly just stuff that was laying around the house.
It's been nearly 7 years (!), time flies...
Nice it looks great. Mine is the exact same unit. I didn't want to have it over that rear lip so I cut and reshaped the housing and formed it to my dash shape with epoxy. Might post a thread on it once I have it in.

My arb twin is mounted on the box that arb sent it in and the Viair lives in the bag it came in.

I love the portable ones. Obviously it’s one more thing in the cab for a negative. But the flexibility is fantastic. Haul it to a buddies rig, no problem. It’s self contained and sets up in less than 30 seconds.

Permanent mounts do have some pluses though for sure. I like having the noise up front and outside for my use case. It’s makes the bride and minions less agitated.
