Bringing this back because the doors were working perfectly for the last couple months… but now it’s back. I think I can provide more information this time in order to possibly narrow down the search. Everything was good until I pressure washed my engine bay while washing the rest of the car. I obviously didn’t get close to any electronics but close enough to every to get all of the mud and dirt out of the engine. Is there anything door lock related that could be causing this in the engine bay? Also, if I repeatedly press the unlock button on either the key or the remote, the doors will lock and the button will stop working until I press lock then press unlock again to unlock everything. Where can I find wiring diagrams for the door locks?

So moisture makes it act up. That to me really sounds like a wire issue or being cracked insulation and shorting against ground. Etc.

when my doors did this, it ended up being the dome light switch in the door jam.

Can you explain a little more what it was and how you fixed it so I can see if that’s my problem too? Thank you

Sure.....first I noticed one day that my car was unlocked....when and where I lived at the time I always locked it. then one day I was out by my car and noticed the doors were unlocking and locking...

I posted on this forum the situation....and some one said....how is your door jam switch working and was told that a bad switch can fool the computer thinking your door is either open or closed even if it is closed it might signal that it is open......I thought .....well sometimes my dome light does not come on. So I went out , opened the door and pushed the door jam ( dome light or as others call it a courtesy light switch) switch repeatedly.....sometimes the light came on and other times not. I then tested all the switches....and only the driver side did this ( the one most often used) so I thought ...well that is cheap and easy and its obviously not working correct anyway so worth a shot.... got a cheap aftermarket replacement that was available in town....replaced it and my door lock issue problem went away as well..so then I ordered a new oem one and put in.
fast forward about 5 years and 4runner #3. Dome light would work sometimes....I still had the aftermarket one in my stash of parts, put it in...solved dome light issue....that one never displayed any locking issues to me....but the person I bought it from said that sometimes the door locks would not work if using the remote. So he quit using the remote. Since putting in the new switch shortly after I bought it and new battery in remote.....i have been using the remote now for nearly a year ( in one month will be a year) with no issues. It might have all been a coincidence on this particular 4runner

anyway....its just a thought

It could also be your integration relay attached to the fuse box behind the driver dash panel
