00’ door locks have started locking on their own

About 4 days ago my door locks started acting up. They will repeatedly lock all doors while I’m driving. If I press the unlock button, it will unlock, then lock right back, if I keep trying to unlock the door, the unlock button stops working. Eventually I have to hold the physical door lock up in order to open the door to get out. It happens intermittently. Sometimes I can go for a drive and it won’t happen, and sometimes it will. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Any ideas of what could be causing it or where to even start?

Thanks. Just checked them and all wires seem to be intact. This morning it the drivers side door lock stopped working. However if I press the buttons on the armrest panel all the other door locks go crazy. Is this just the car trying to tell me that I need to replace the door lock actuator?

I haven't seen alot of lock solenoids go bad..

When I swapped doors my lock actuators did that. I had to adjust the lock connecting rods as I changed the door handle.

Mostly its bad wires. Did you check the tailgate as it has the power lock wires in it ad well. The later models even have the keyless entry module in the tailgate.

I had to repair the tailgate wiring on my 2000 a while back and most wires were busted. Make sure you take a really good inside the rubber boot. Removing the entire harness off the truck and soldering brand new wire on all cracked areas did the trick for me.

I even have a an old tailgate harness that I use to fix the damaged wires. I just one one broke with 2 others insulation cracked in the tailgate. I had no power window nor windshield wiper until I fixed the wires... when insulation crackes wires can short against each other. Thus why I fix any wire both broken or cracked insulation.

Good stuff - I'm gonna have to man up and have a look under the hatch boot.

Nope. I’ll check them before I install the new actuator.

Everything on mine works perfectly. Except the the door locks not wanted to lock or unlock when I press the buttons. If it’s true that a short in the drivers side/hatch door jam could cause all this, could it also be the passenger door jam and the rear door jams causing it as well? Is it worth checking them as well?

At this point I would verify all door jams. If you didn't have any door changed or handles change I would doubt its the connecting rods.

I also verify the driver door switches are working properly.

When it does it the lock jiggle do they all do it or just one?

They all do it. However, yesterday the drivers side stopped moving entirely. No sounds or anything. The other 3 doors still do the lock jiggle.

Update: I installed the new door lock actuator and it still does not work. The drivers side is still not working at all. I used a volt meter to compare power on the passenger side to the drivers side. I noticed that the drivers side gets a constant .8 volts at all times while the passenger side gets 1.5v at all times. Why is this happening?

My money is still on a broken wire in the drivers door or possibly the tailgate. A broken wire in any of the other doors should only affect the lock on that door.

Bingo. I suspect insulation cracking somewhere and some wires shorting as well.

Going to have to find it... if it's not a wire, it have to be the keyless entry system messing up. As that's the only 2 possibilities I see left.

So, this is kinda weird to say this, and I never thought I’d be mad at something for working… but I got home from work today and plugged the old actuator back in and the doors are working perfectly. Do I just leave it alone and forget about it and risk it starting to do the same thing again? Or keep hunting for this mysterious “pinched wire” that I’m just not seeing…
