Upper Control Arm ?

Hello-
I was wondering if need to replace the entire UCA, ir can i just replace the bushing?

Reason i ask is. I drive a 2004 F150 (the 4R is my son's) On the F150, you cant replace the OEM UCA bushings only, its connected to the UCA. And i am embarking on that project, as the bushings are bad.

I noticed on the 4R, you can replace just the bushings. All suspension is original (2002, 290K miles) I am replacing coils, shocks, sway bar links.

Is it OK to just do bushings, or replace the entire UCA?

thanks,

If the UCA’s aren’t rusted to hell and the upper ball joint is tight, you can just get the Whiteline bushings for the UCA.

The maintenance sticky at the top of this page has a video made by Tim on how to replace bushings.

If you have a press and a bearing splitter, press out the bushings. If not, maybe invest in the tools. A Harbor Freight Press isn't that expensive and it's helpful for lots of projects like wheel bearings and other bushing work.

This is doable. I did it for the first time with the help of Timmy's video. Try to avoid the bottle jack method to press out the bushings. Instead use the bearing spliiter tool. Also use heat to expand so you gentle on the control arm.

Best is to use OEM bushings. Those are not expensive and can buy from Partsouq.com for a fraction of the price here in the US. Use Fedex shipping and you can get it in 4-5 days to your door. Enter the VIN and search the parts diagram.

If you heat the arm around the bushing a bottle jack should be fine, use common sense and don't over stress it. A 4WD bearing press (looks like a heavy duty C clamp) and cup and heat will work too.
