I don't have the full rack, but the crossbar setup from Sherpa. All the components were of great quality and it sits outside 24/7, still holding up nicely! Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the quality from Shepra!

Just checked the height above the roof with Antero. Forward most cross bar is about center with the rear door, or about 6 inches behind the sunroof. 2.5" from the roof to the top of the bar.

I drove into a parking garage yesterday with 6' 6" warning sign no problem. 2" at most suspension lift/no body lift.
My question is why use an apostrophe on Bong's when you seem to know how to pluralize Hookahs?

I don't have one but I really recommend Sherpa based on what I've read, experienced and others' experiences. I ran into part of the Sherpa crew randomly in Yellowstone a few years ago and they were super nice and personable. Alex, Will and Hayden are all great guys and I would absolutely buy one of their racks if I was in the market for one. I've heard nothing but great things about their customer service, which is increasingly important (especially in this industry) in the times we're living in. Just my two cents.

Measure from the floor to the top of your rack. I used a 6' level across the top of my roof basket to get my current height.
Measure center hub to fender and floor to fender, front and back (tallest side if unequal). You and I have the same fender flares. With those 3 measurements I can calculate my final height with a Sherpa rack pretty closely.
I'd really appreciate that.

Sorry for the slow response on this. I had a crazy last few days of family stuff.
Went out and re-measured everything... Somehow all my heights (lift heights) are down 1" from when I last measured everything. Hmmm...
The real important measurement though, is that the rack is almost exactly 2 3/4" off the highest center point of the roof. That should most easily transfer over.
Here's the rest, averaged R/L and rounded to nearest 1/4":
Front hub to fender lip F: 19.75"
Front ground to fender lip F: 34.75"
Front hub to fender lip R: 21.25"
Front ground to fender lip R: 36.25"
Ground to roof rack above b-pillar: 72.5"

are the panels on the sides of the rack functional or are those just decorative?
Thanks.

They are structural and mounts for crossbars. They support various brackets/mounts. You can also just order crossbars and feet but of course each bar would need feet. I've since added 4 'Smiley' brackets I'll use to secure a plywood platform with pronged T-nuts or something.

Thank you. I thought all the cross bars were provided with feet and supported on the rails.

Only three crossbars are supported directly on the Sherpa rack. The front one uses rubber 'pressure' feet, the rear two bolt to the stock rack rail tracks.

Unfortunately the holes will not line up if you do this and the bottom of the mounting feet will not match the curve of the roof as they were designed to mount flat to the track system, without any rubber bases like the other racks have. Also, it sucks but Toyota made the roofs of the 3rd gens quite then. Because of this, I have seen many other companies racks, that do not utilize the track system actually cave in parts of the roof where the mounting feet bolt down. By using the track system, it actually helps add some rigidity to the roof.
My decision might have been made right there...

I have ran both the Sherpa (was their previous company name at the time) and the Prinsu rack on my 3rd gen. Their statement about the not utilizing the track system is hilarious. The Prinsu rack uses all five bolt holes per side for mounting that the stock rack does. Contact point to contact point the Prinsu rack is 10 bolt mounts + 2 front pressure points vs the Sherpa being 4 contact mounts to the ~20 year old track system + 2 front pressure points.
My experience with Sherpa was bad - the product was lacking and their customer service was crap. Blame the user then come out with an "upgrade" that addresses what the customer called out as an issue. I bought and then trashed the Sherpa rack. I have been running and abusing a Prinsu rack without any issues for the last two years. Dollar for dollar it has been one of my best investments with my 4Runner.
For clarification - I usually drive around with nothing on the rack; but when loaded out I have a CVT Mt Shasta, Tred boards, and maybe a shovel. My wife did not feel stable/ safe in the RTT with the Sherpa rack. That statement from her convinced me I had to do something different.
If you go with the Sherpa hopefully you have a better experience but I would not put anything from Sherpa in or on my 4Runner again.

It's the 5 factory mounting points for the factory roof rack rails. Remove the track and there are 5 threaded inserts in the roof.

Here's a link to the Prinsu page: Toyota 4Runner Prinsu Full Roof Rack | 1995.5-2002 - Prinsu Roof Racks
Probably is a bit stronger than the Sherpa rack, but really, at that point you're probably more running onto the strength limitations of the 4Runner roof itself, rather than the rack.
The Sherpa does mount to the metal rail that bolts to all 5 holes, the Prinsu removes that and bolts to the 5 holes. I'd imagine the roof would rip if you hooked a winch to the rack and dragged it off with either rack.

Mahaloz and I saw it on their site after responding to you. The 5 points make a stronger contact to contact. Interesting, I might just modify the footprint of my rack.

Pretty sure both racks are 'rated' at 600lbs static, so approximately you and 2 friends(!) in your RTT and 300lbs in motion while wheeling. If that's not enough, you may want to look into a bigger buggy.
