First of all, get a front skid on there. I'd be way more worried about that unprotected plastic radiator than I would be about a piece of brass that is tucked up higher than the bottom of the radiator.

Get the one with the nipple. Even if you don't use it, it won't get in the way.

I leave the hose just barely sticking out of the skid plate 100% of the the time. If it gets ripped off, I'll just replace the hose. The valve itself is way protected up there.

If only these 3rd gens had a better Oil filter design. I really need to grab a form-a-funnel, but I never do. I need to get my buddy to 3d print something that will work.

I haven't put a Fumoto on my 3rd gen yet, but I think I will next oil change.
Just do the bag trick I mentioned earlier, you'll need to put the filter in a ziploc anyway when you recycle it.

my current rig came without the rear skid.( someone removed and not put back) .so no issue there. Yes the factory front skid helps protect the radiator. Yes I agree the oil filter on these is a pain...but believe me , I have delt with many worse .

Rear skid and fuel filter skid don't do much both taken off left off, running without front skid a stick could ruin your day.
Been considering Fumoto valve since they gained popularity, I don't like the nipple running up into oil pan keeps
you from getting all the oil/gunk out of pan. Kind of OCD but over the long haul you'd have a buildup.
Like 3bears said there are worse filters out there, I've done it enough times now as long as I didn't tighten filter too tight it a piece a cake. Cardboard under the area and brakeclean is part of oil change.

The nipple is outside the pan for an optional hose to attach to, not protruding up into the oil pan (if I understand when you are suggesting).

Threaded nipple is 1/2"-5/8" long subtract thickness of pan and crush washer what's left protrudes into pan,
there's oil and sludge left behind with every oil change.

OK - I see what you are saying. i will drain with valve and then pull the valve next time and see what more comes out. If it's measurable, then you may have a point. Sludge isn't coming out on its own, regardless.

Methinks you need to look inside the oil pan. There is a welded nut (basically) that protrudes just as far into the pan as the Fumoto valve. You aren't losing any ability to drain the oil or gunk out.

I'd be interested in hearing the results won't be much oil left behind but some not knocking throwing out
first thoughts I had using it priority for getting one like the idea.
Sludge not coming out on it's own yep.
Spray tube that comes with can of brakeclean can be heated with Bic bend offset in it
spray inner sides and bottom of pan see what comes out, chit you do after buying

I'll do that, no further than I've looked was thinking the threaded nut plate was like 1/8"- 3/16" thick or so reason for fine threads on plug. Might get convinced to go with it.
