The liberal policies are ruining this beautiful state. There's no plan to deal with the homeless in big cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco. It might not bother you, but it's bothering a whole host of people that are fed up and want out. I don't know if i'm leaving the state, but I'm certainly moving to an area with less homelessness, crime and filth.

The thing is, it doesn't need to be this way. It's the way the state is managed. It's the decriminalization of drug crimes, being drunk in public, and enabling this life style by letting them set up camps wherever the hell they want. Back in the 70's when I was growing up, the cops had the authority to kick people out. People high on drugs were sent to jail and did time. It's basically a free for all and we all suffer as a society.

So, don't get your feelings too hurt about what I said about LA. I'm not a fan of where I live in San Jose either. I use to like visiting San Francisco, but I have no desire anymore. I don't want to see the filth or take a chance of one of my truck windows getting smashed. The property crimes in S.F. are off the charts bad. My neighbor across the street just got their catalytic converter stolen. I'm not going to be surprised if I'm next.

Anyway, you have a nice life Frank.
Man, it's the whole west coast. I was up in Seattle in the used-to-be nice downtown area near Pike's Place. Half the shops were boarded up around and people were drunk and high all over the place. Apparently Portland is so bad that major retailers are leaving the city citing too much crime and their employees are put at risk just by doing their job.

Washington state home prices are down -7% year over year while the rest of the country is going up. It's only a matter of time until other larger coast cities like Portland, San Francisco and then eventually all the way down to LA and the surrounding cities start to drop too. Salesforce tower, the largest skyscraper and office building in SF, is at 20% occupancy. 80% of businesses have already moved out. Crazy to think that in perhaps 10 more years SF will be in decline and downtown not like it is today.

These cities won't collapse in some sort of apocalyptical fashion, they will just be tourist traps and full of memories of 'the good 'ol days' with no plan on bringing them back. On the flipside, Sacramento is growing faster that it ever has before. Come bring your $1.5m of equity and buy a nice home in Folsom in cash and enjoy world class hiking, skiiing and off-roading right on your doorstep!

My Dad grew up in the Bay Area (Woodside, then Livermore), Mom was born there (Berkeley) but grew up in Portland. I'm a SoCal kid, but the rest of my family (Mom, Dad, Sister) are just up the hill from Folsom (El Dorado Hills) and have been since 1994...

There's still a lot of 'regular' places in California once you get out of the Bay Area, Los Angeles area and the San Diego area.

My wife and I live in Pasadena because it is the closest we could get to LA without it feeling like and being LA.

I've been to Pasadena, it's a nice place and enjoyed the short time there. I also grew up in Livermore and enjoyed the old fashioned vibe of the town. It's family and the fantastic natural beauty of this place that keeps me here. I was just digging up minerals a few weeks back in a serpentine rock occurrence, stopped to pan for gold in the stream, and walked through hills sprinkled with sunflowers, poppies and other wildflowers. So unique.

I lived in Pasadena and So Pas for 35yrs....all good times
The Hankies
Hangin out and laughing w/ Terry Kilgore (Ed's friend and Roth's 1st guitarist) building guitar amps, repairing guitar amps for Pasadena Guitars, working for JPL on dozens of projects...
Our band played in old town at the E-Bar and dozens of Art Center parties and the Loch Ness...back when old town was a fukkin ghetto
Yea, **** I'm old

I don't even recognize it anymore when I take trips back to JPL for work..but Inland Empire is WAY worse.

Wish I had met Charlie (phattyduck) before we moved to Riverside Redneck Hell...but I made my wife be my wrench bud...she's a trooper

I only have fond memories of Pasadena

Now I spend my time fixing and wheeling my pig boat 3rd Gen in AZ/Utah/Colo

Yeah, I heard the sole REI store in Portland is closing down because of theft. What a said state of affairs. Law and order needs to reestablished and honest hard working people should get at least equal consideration to the bums who offer nothing back to society. Things are so upside down right now. These liberal progressive cities are shooting themselves in the foot, and it sure seems they don't give a shit. Their tax base is going down the toilet and they keep operating the same way. You'd think they'd wake up when they see business after business closing down and relocating somewhere else where they actually are valued and protected. West Coast states are going to continue declining until the voter base pulls their heads out of their asses and realizes the morons they keep electing aren't governing like they should. The derelicts in society should not be put ahead of the hard working and honest people in society who give back to the society they live in. Even if it's just paying your taxes, you're doing a hell of a lot more than the drug addict shooting heroin on the street corner, and dropping their drawers and taking a big steaming dump on the public sidewalk. I really detest that our beautiful state of California is turning into a complete and utter shit hole.

I grew up in and worked in the Bay Area and spent a lot of time in LA and SD. As a minority, early on it was not hard to recognize that as there were increasingly no negative consequences for bad behaviors, there was no reason for them to change. In fact, they grew worse election after election decade after decade. The majority of voters in the large metro areas elected the future of their state and continued to believe their actions were forward thinking progressive.

However, as the man, Thomas Sowell, said, “You cannot subsidize irresponsibility and expect people to become more responsible.” Such 'insensitive' Sowellian type voices remained in the minority and were routinely rejected at the polls. Thus, the sunny Golden State has become even more attractive to those seeking the lazy, drug addled, taker lifestyle. A vagrant, criminal breeding ground supported by those in office who can count on 'progressive' votes in return for lax enforcement of law.

Perhaps things will change??? It is said that one can ignore reality, but one cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. After all, a realist is simply an idealist who has been mugged. Nah! s/o

PS Most call them homeless camps. To others, they are vagrant villages.

I grew up and lived in LA till the last year. My wife got a great job position and we decided that it was worth the move. However, I worried about the whole process a lot. We had much stuff, everything needed to be sorted and packed. All that mess around... Fortunately, we live in times when we can find any service you want. These movers turned out to be a good choice as they not only transferred everything but also unpacked most things for us. To be honest, I miss LA. Maybe I got used to it, maybe because this is my home city.
