Normally I would not order from some guy on Facebook without a real website or contact info, despite the fact that many (including some folks here) have vouched that Joe Joe is legit.

I only placed my order with him because he promised that he could get some parts that are discontinued.

Obviously with every passing month I'm losing hope, although I keep telling myself that if he does come through, all will be forgiven. It's more of a thought experiment for me at this point.

In my mind, I'll give him a couple more months, then it'll be time for a heart to heart with Jason Harbert, since Joe Joe does much of his selling on the 3G4R SoCal page that Jason operates.

Thanks! To be fair, I did say that I'll give him two more months, and it's only been a week. Not like I expect anything to change over the next two months, given the past seven months .

I've had similar experiences with parts sellers too. Finding those who offer great deals can save us a good chunk of change. It's fantastic that Joe Joe's quotes have been working out for you. As for the legitimacy, I'd say it's totally okay to be cautious. Maybe you could contact some fellow car enthusiasts who've dealt with him. I also can share this on Facebook, as I buy instant Facebook likes and am pretty popular there. Let me know if you need it.

I'm still waiting for my parts, it's been a year. Joe has gone from "they're in transit" to "I'm trying to find out from Toyota where they are". Doubt I'll ever see them.

So is he going to reimburse the order?

I've never ordered from him, but I followed all the drama on the Mafia page. His claim that he doesn't make any money on this stuff is a huge red flag. That's clearly BS. Why lie about it? It's weird.

From reading here and the FB group, it's clear a few people have been left waiting for a long time for their parts while being given the run around. That said, most people seem super happy with their purchase.

If his quote is significantly better than anywhere else, it might be worth the risk. I don't think anyone's claimed he's shipping bogus parts, it's just an issue of wait times and bad communication.

I only ordered from him because he claimed that he could get me some vacuum hoses that were discontinued by Toyota. I figured it was a $100 gamble, I was willing to take it on the off chance that he came through.

I can understand that one.. However, several vacuum hoses are gone. None left anywhere around the world.

The irony is Toyota can have more made or release it to the aftermarket.

I had this happen with bolts. That I think is silly. They can always make more.

It seems some parts like hoses etc , bolts etc just discontinued.

Lots of body parts are dicountinued. Just happens, but mostly engine parts are mostly available all the way back.

I am wondering if we had enough people from this forum fb and everywhere petition toyota that they make more parts for the 3rd gens?

From what I remember talking to my friend who is Toyota Dealer Parts manager. Once it's "discontinued" there is no way to back order the part. Like the Mudflaps for the SR5 Flares. I bought one of the last sets in the country back in 2012. A few more popped up here and there from time to time, but there were no new ones produced past like 2012. They were not able to be backorder, Toyota will completely discontinue parts.

I have another friend who works at Toyota Corporate. I'm gonna pick his brain and see if there is a way to make it happen though. I feel like they would end up selling a TON of these parts now, since the enthusiast community is still very strong with these.

The number of essential parts that are being discontinued and the rate in which it is happening is frightening. Very soon we will be at a point where used or aftermarket will be out only options for parts that are used only on 3rd Gen 4Runners. There are still a lot of parts shared with newer vehicles that should be in production for some time.

The most critical one is the discontinuing of transmissions. Once all the used ones are bought up from the salvage yards the only route to repair a transmission will be to rebuild with aftermarket parts. No thank you.

Its why I am suggesting we investigate if we can petition Toyota to remfg dicountinued parts. Only they can make this happen.

Anyone with higher end contects may want to ask their contacts if this is even possible.
