I can't say anything. As besides the 2 classic cars. All I own are toyotas. I not quite as wise. I just had them around me since I was a young kid.
Plus started working on them when I think I was 15.

for many years i wondered if my Toyota addiction was a mental illness (at one time I had 6 in my driveway) I've bought and sold so many cars and trucks over the years.

I've sold off a few landcruisers and 4Runners over the years, and kept the very best of the ones ive had. There is one 80 series landcruiser that I let go that i regret. but I am glad I held onto them, because they keep going up in value. I actually revamped my insurance policy because my "old trucks" are now worth more than I paid for them 8 or 10 years ago.

Fellow ol' fart here, and I'm with you on many levels. We have 4 3rd gens in the family, plus a Tacoma and my 89 Land Cruiser which I've had for over 25 years. Still I know that the one constant in life is change, and I am actually moving towards selling one of the 3rd gens. The 3RZ is the most dependable thing ever, I mean sure I had to clean the IAC once and replace one coil, but it never fails. Still, it is truly anemic, and that is from my wife who thinks going over 65 should be a felony in all states. But the real reason she will end up with mine is that I want to have me a GX470. Understand I was a firm believer in Chuck Yeager's mantra that one should never buy a truck not built by General Motors. And I am still a Chevy guy, the Suburban is the go to for towing, hauling, and saving the day, currently building a 59 Viking at the moment, and I won't sell my 62 Pontiac Catalina. And I know I'll miss driving my 3rd gen everyday, it truly is like a comfortable pair of shoes. But I NEED a little more power towing my overland trailer, therefore I MUST have me a GX. Hmmm, maybe I have too many cars....nahhhhh.

Im not quite an old fart yet in my early 30s (although I feel like one sometimes).

But I'm with you. I've had the horsepower bug since my teens, starting with a 390Fe big block 68 F100 shortbed that would fry tires all day. It was a torque monster. I've had a built naturally aspirated Coyote 5.0 Mustang that ran low low 12s, and would have been in the 11s before I grenaded the MT82 trans. (hey! I didnt even run it into a crowd!). I've had a comfy, luxurious 2014 F150 XLT 4x4 supercrew, with leather and all the amenities.

Through all of that, my 3rd gen is still the best out of all of them. It's not even close. It's single handedly the most well rounded vehicle I've had, can go anywhere, can haul both kids and the wife, and it's just got that classic Toyota feel. Down to the little things that excite me like the sound the door makes when it closes with precision. These trucks are freaking awesome, and there is a reason they're fetching a premium now. Folks are catching on.

I love mine, I have 3. My only concern is there is still electronics and plastic stuff that will eventually fail. I guess there are so many of these around that replacement parts will be available for a long time but at some age you have to wonder if it will be reliable going deep into the bush; I guess a $10k complete refresh of the parts that tend to fail could address that -- it's still cheaper than a fancy new car with more electronics than metal.

I have a diesel 60 series with 3B. I am building that one to have zero electronics; the ultimate mechanical-mobile. The only electricity will be for the lights, windshield wipers, blower, glow plugs, starter, compressor, winch and stereo, plus cigarette lighter ports. So that removes any possible electrical gremlins to leave you stranded. Beyond that, I'll go through everything and update and it should be super reliable. Bring a portable welder in the bush and it's almost unstoppable.

It's good to specialize in a couple vehicles rather than spread myself too thin, for me that's the 60 series and 3rd gens. I love the styling of the 80 series but they have electronics too and more to go wrong; upkeep is expensive.

I can relate with the machine bug. Current runners in the stable are 1971 BMW R60/5 motorcycle, 1980 Dnepr Soviet Era sidecar rig, 2005 GasGas EC250 dirt bike, 2000 Honda XR100 (such a fun little bike), 2016 Polaris RZR Trail Fox Edition, 1999 Ford E350 SuperDuty extended passenger van (only 40k miles tow rig & tent while I'm camping), 2005 BMW 325xi (my old daily and currently my daughters daily), and 2 3rd gen 4runners.....and those are only the running machines. Pending non-running projects are 1968 Yamaha YCS 180, 1990 Ducati 900SS CR, 1993 Husqvarna 350, and a Polaris Trailblazer 250.

Yes, I have a problem and I love it.

Being from Detroit, Toyota was a dirty word for a long time. It took a lot of wrenching and hearing how great Toyotas are before I finally gave them a try. A few years ago my wife needed a new daily and I selfishly wanted something I could use to tow my boat. I picked up the 2000 SR5 for $3800. 158k on it when I bought it. Rusty body where the running boards touch the body but overall decent condition. At this time I was driving the BMW as my daily but found myself wanting to drive that damn 3rd gen all the time so decided I needed to find a nicer one for myself. Ended up finding the 2000 Limited with rear locker and 124K miles for $8000.

Wrenching on these trucks has been a dream compared to previous American made vehicles. Hell, most of the wrenching I am doing for fun not because something is broken. I'm currently waiting for the weather to get better to install a Dobinsons IMS lift, JBA Upper Control Arms, Whiteline lower control arm bushings, and new cv axles.

I don't think I have an addiction (this is my only vehicle besides a company vehicle) but I'll be damned if this isn't my favorite vehicle I've ever owned by a pretty good margin. Vehicles are supposed to take you places and this thing takes me places and should continue to do so for a long time. That and I've discovered how much I love to work on vehicles. So far I've only touched the chassis and the rear end but man busting knuckles on getting covered in grease is just so much fun.
