Original starter on '98 began failing at 120,000 mi. Would start ok most of the time then fail with an intermittent click. Replaced with an OEM rebuilt from Toyota. I guess it depends on how many times the starter is used as opposed to the mileage. No issues since. Alternator is still original at 122,000 mi.

Still going strong on the 87 pickup, that I purchased at 1 year old, 30,000 miles. Now, 327,000 miles, still going strong. It was my DD when I still drove the 100 mies to and from work every day, in 110 degrees F. At first, we were on a "firehouse" schedule, 24 on, 48 off, then we went to a friggen 12 hour schedule. I worked the night shift, 7 PM to 7 AM, week on, week off. Mainly because no one else wanted it. The other 3 Flight Directors rotated through the other night shift. It was still 105 wheen I'd drive to work, though.
Now, I've got a 99 my wife found. She negotiated a $5000 price tag for it, plus 1,000 shipping. Great price, right when the used car prices were skyrocketing. Anywho, it's got 325,000 miles on it, still on the original starter. Still fires right up. I guess I'm just starter-lucky
Now watch, I've jinxed it...
Have a very happy new year all!
Pat☺

Great question octane!
Helps me a ton, as I wondered being I have the drivetrain out for a freshen @ 278K. The starter is going to a local rebuilder; I;ll try the alt myself.

As far as I know, 305,000 miles which is where I'm at now. I bought it with about 130, maybe they were done before then but I kinda doubt it.

Figured I'd add mine. Got 250k out of my original starter, original alternator just clocked out at 309k.

I replaced the starter contacts on the original starter at somewhere around 200K miles when it started occasionally just clicking instead of cranking. It's been working great since then.
At around 225K miles the brushes in the alternator started to fail, the alternator would stop charging and the warning light would come in intermittently, often 'fixed' by tapping the alternator. I installed a new brush set for really cheaply, and it was all working properly again.... sort of.
I noticed it had a fairly pronounced whine when charging (like after starting, when it's working hard to recharge the battery). And it seemed to be struggling a bit with the load in general. Recently at around 235K miles I whacked it with my purse and put in a Denso rebuilt 100A alternator from a Suzuki Grand Vitara (almost a bolt on, drill out one hole, and the connectors are all the same, just in slightly different spots) and it's no longer whining.

Everything is original at 308,000 miles except tires, timing belt (130k since last change), brakes, muffler and fluids. Clutch won't be hitting 309 though

so I trust denso rebuilds over all other auto part rebuilds...mostly from what I have read here and on other forums. I have used many denso rebuilds with no problems. However today I walked out to my rig after work ( side note auto start for 10m minutes here in alaska) and the alternator was loud. its the front bearing...no my belt is not too tight..
so I am disappointed this alternator has not gone 2 years. but it is charging fine according to my torque pro.
couple of odd things...when it was minus 40 a bit ago...no noise..today at 14 i got noise...2nd odd thing...i have just gotten all my parts to do the 105 denso alternator upgrade..i was gonna do it this summer for next winter charge upgrade with a bigger battery and the big 3
so just how good is a denso rebuild ?
next one....2 months ago I did a denso starter...how long is that gonna last ? ( prob could have just done contacts and clean things....but in a hurry and in the cold and no garage so just did a rock auto denso swap)
