What is my 4runner worth?
I'm not really interested in selling so I'm not posting in the classified section of the forums, but in today's market I'm curious what I could get.
- 1996 SR5 4WD, 286k miles
- new heads on engine at 260k miles
- trans serviced and new torque converter at 270k
- Socal: no rust!
- 3 inch toytec aluma series boss lift, 1 inch body lift
- BFG KO2 285/75r16 with 3/4 tread left and spare
- ARB CKMA12 high flow air compressor in engine bay for OBA
- Dual battery setup instead of cruise control since CC wasn't working anyways
- Savage offroad sliders. These might legitimately be the last set that the owner welded up, I picked them up from his house in the same town where I live
- Coastal offroad high clearance front bumper with 2 40W Cree LED pods
- Eimkeith rear bumper
- Eimkeith rear F150 fuel tank
- Sherpa Matterhorn roof rack with ExtremeLED X6S 38" amber/white light bar
- no lockers, no elockers, 4.10 gears, engine runs and shifts more smoothly than any other car I've ever owned
- just passed CA smog, no issues with passing emissions testing
The rear fuel tank is set up to be a second tank that supplies the engine directly, with a switch in the cab to switch between tanks while running. This basically doubles the range of the 4runner.
Anyone want to make me a hypothetical offer?

really hard to price something with no pictures, but unfortunately mods don't really increase sale value as much we'd like them to.
Check out carsandbids.com to see what similar trucks are selling for. I see 3rd gens going anywhere from ~4K to 15K these days, mostly determined by mileage and condition.

Low mileage, good body and no rust = sky's the limit.

all nice mods and I'm not saying anything about choice or quality of mods, I have a lot of those same mods on one of my trucks.
however, I would tell you if it was me looking for a truck, I pass on anything that has those levels of mods. I want something as close to stock as possible. I know a lot of people just pass on things when they find out it's been modified.
again not saying anything about the choice or quality of mods, just when I'm buying that comes into play for me.

The mileage would scare most people off, rebuilt top end or not. At near 300K miles everything just starts to break from driveline to steering to things like the A/C. I would guess in California you could get 8K-10K. 8K for the average person and 10K if you hold out for weeks or months for the one guy who thinks it's their dream car.
I hope you get a good offer with your probably-not-hypothetical sale

If this was a real sale - pull the mods and sell them individually, then piece the rig back together as best you can and still sell it for 5k. I'm seeing close to 10k in that scenario. Aftermarket upgrades resale value is still on the rise and wait times for new product are still absurd. Running, driving, legal, smogged carcasses have plenty of value too. Nostalgic Savage items? Name your price.....

Some people will see value in the mods/upgrades.
Some people will see value in maintenance records.
Some people will see value in as close to stock as possible.
Some people will see value in overall condition.
Some people we see value in low mileage.
You can't please all of these people all of the time.
Your truck is worth what a buyer is willing to pay. You need to find the right buyer.

Thanks guys. I wanted to know because I'm moving from CA to Indiana in a few weeks, and I'm taking my other car there and leaving the 4runner for now. People keep asking whether I am going to sell the car even though I'm not getting any of my money back on the mods, or own a car 2000 miles away from where I live.

Let me know if you want to sell any mods before you move!

My rig was just totaled out at 265K miles. Part of that process was in independent 3rd party vehicle valuation. The 3 rigs used in that valuation where stock. The average price of those 3 rigs with similar mileage was $8970. If you listed your rig here and on TacomaWorld you'd get $10K. Target the audience that wants the mods and you'll get a little back for them. I'm in Cali as well.
