PCV Rattle
Hey folks.
Hearing this rattling sound from my PCV. Is this normal? I know the rattle test to be sure the part itself it working, but is it supposed to make this sound when the engine is running?
About 1k miles ago I had my valve covers done (I didn't have access to a garage at the time) and had the shop that did it replace my PCV valve so I don't know if it's an OE part. I also need to replace the hose as the ends are a bit cracked.

Mine doesn't do that. That doesn't look OEM to me. OEM has a white stem. This is the part # for the OEM one: 12204-62010.

They're cheap, just replace it! Plus that one looks pretty new, definitely aftermarket, so it doesn't look like a pain to remove. When I removed mine the rubber was so cracked it ended up falling into the valvecover and I had to spend a couple hours melting it out and fiddling with it with the valvecover off, soaking it in brake clean, etc. Point being no excuse lol. Also, I replaced my hoses for silicone, I have a v6 but I believe the 10mm or 3/8 vacuum hose size is the same on the pcv hose.

Just replace it and the grommet. It’s not a lifetime part and cheap. Buy OEM on both.
Just be careful not to break it into pieces. If it does don’t panic. Just vacuum them out or use a small needle nose pliers.

Nope replace it. It's a very cheap part and will take less than 15 seconds to get it out. The hose on the other hand, is like $20!

Luckily I've got some silicon hose for it. Just need to run out and buy some clamps!

well if it is rattling then at least its prob not stuck in a closed position..that would not be good.
but agree....replace...cheap if you use aftermarket like 5 bucks, yota is about 12. I used aftermarket about 10 months ago, but this summer I have to do vc gaskets, and i will use yota grommet and pcv at that time

Wanted to post an update about this:
I got an OE PCV Valve and grommet (was almost $30 total from Toyota...inflation man) and replaced the one I had. Used silicon tubing as I've been doing for all the vacuum hoses that need to be replaced in the engine bay. The rattling has since stopped. No signs that the valve that was installed had any issues, just was a crappy aftermarket part.
Feels like most of the times I need to use aftermarket parts because I'm in a pinch end in me buying the OE part a few months later.
