Rear door speaker size?
I've searched the forum and got mixed answers.
What is the stock speaker size in the rear doors?
Some people say 4" and others says 5.25".
I just want to replace the stock (blown) speaker with something that is a direct fit.
Thanks

So if I order 5.25" speakers, they will drop right in?
I read on here that people had to use adapter plates to make 5.25" speakers fit because the window hits the magnet.

It depends on the speaker. Some fit, some need adapter plates. Crutchfield has good info re. what speakers are a direct fit.

Crutchfield has shallow mount speakers for Runners 5.25" plug n play.
Don't have to buy there their info on what works what you're after.

Crutchfield sells a lot of open box items for cheaper than anywhere else though. I bought my subwoofer and my head unit from them since they were open box and cheapest.
Check Ebay though.

When I checked Crutchfield, I didn't see any shallow mount, plug and play options. All of the speakers it listed had an adapter plate as required.
To be honest though, I've never bought from Crutchfield so maybe I'm just missing it.

I had to do some modifying of the rear speaker mount to fit the 5 1/4” kicker speakers I installed. Forget exactly what I did and sadly I looked on my thread and only a picture of the front speaker.

As for plug n play, that has to do with depth needed for no window interference.
Adapter plate comes with all speakers anymore may need may not, it mostly for lining up mounting holes different pattern.
Call them they'll tell you what works.

I called Crutchfield and they sold me 6 1/2" Polk Audio (DB 652). A couple different posts here suggested using plastic cutting boards for a mounting plate.
Worked perfect for me. Didn't have to modify the doors, sounds great and the windows roll all the way down.

I believe the OEM rear size is a non standard size. The adapter plates posted above help transfer it to a standard 5.25" speaker. If you want totally plug and play you'll need to buy a wiring harness adapter. They're sold at Amazon, best buy, etc.

This is exactly what I did. Has worked great so far. I went with a relatively shallow mount speaker from kicker to make sure I could roll the windows down. The details are in my build thread from the Aug/Sep 2021 timeframe.

For me the 5.25" didn't put out enough sound was easy install, still using them when 96Red got totaled.
In the 01 used 1/4" Luan plywood for adapters like fatherohenry because I had it, for 6.5's in doors.
lil extra work was worth it.
