How hot does the transmission tunnel get?

I'm starting to put sound deadening on my 4runner. A major source of noise is engine and transmission noise. I want to put sound deadening on the transmission tunnel (in the interior).

I had a family member use my car before I started work and by then the metal surface of the transmission tunnel (from inside the vehicle) was too hot for me to touch. The stuff I have (Noico) says its good up to 212 F for extended periods of time. Is that too low for what I want to use it on? (manual transmission)

What is a sufficient temperature rating for sound insulation used on the transmission tunnel?

The transmission tunnel gets very hot, but that will be a sufficient heat rating for your sound deadening material.

I have used Noico on the inside around the trans tunnel. It's fine and it does help.

I'm about to add several layers of Foil Tape to my trans tunnel and console.

I already have a layer of the NOICO Foam on the trans tunnel.

Slow Crawling for hours gets the trans tunnel VERY hot. My stainless cup gets almost too hot to touch on the bottom after a full day of trails in 4lo...

This stuff seemed to help for me. I think it will help reflect the heat from the trans and the cat more than just insulate like Noico would.

I fitted it yesterday, it does help with the noise. The stock insulation used in the footwells was disintegrating but I kept it.

I still have a lot of engine noise coming in from the firewall, but getting access requires removing large portions of the dash. I really want to cut down on noise in the 3k rpm range since that is what the engine is at on the highway.

wouldn't this reflect the heat back to the tranny?

The radiant heat, sure. I’d be willing to bet the trans relies mostly on convective heat transfer from the bottom and sides of the housings where there’s airflow.
