Evap bad?

Hi all,

I’ve been having a few small engine issues lately. I’ve noticed a smell of fuel from the area near the rear axle. Also I’ve had several times where the engine stumbles a bit during a hot restart. And, at times when entering the highway, it feels under powered.

Would it be a good idea to replace the canister? I know where I can get one cheap off a totaled 4Runner.

Evap canister for 96-00 is in the engine bay so that would not explain your gas smell near the rear axle.

Check fuel tank seams, pin holes also the filler neck, hoses and metal lines.

If your smelling gas by the gas tank in 96 to 00. It has to like the other members suggested. Or lines on top of the tank. Other then a gas cap gasket. There is nothing else left.
