feeling lucky on price i paid
so prices on these third gens are going nuts. so ..i totaled my favorite modded 3rd gen and got offered enough to buy another....less some my mods....ok...thats ok. so last june bought a 3rd owner nice 3rd a highlander edition..for 4500....military guy in a hurry to sell on his transfer. I jumped on it the when it hit face book....cash in hand means a lot. Now i dont see much less than a rusted out parts car..let alone one for less than 10k up here unless its a total POS and now one just pooped up in town ...2002 for 15k at 178k...no service records.. Im at 229k. so...buyers...know what to look at and have cash to move now.
for fun...i might have to make a trip to the lower 48. years past I could pick up a good rig...bring it up and pay my trip.and put some money in my pocket..now rigs like old tundras or sequoias are going nuts too.....guess its cause it toyota quality. btw...my last trip money making trip was a 99 dodge diesel last year

I have 293,000 on my 97 with almost 30k miles on a fresh engine and a spare trans and XFR case in the garage. As long as I can repair the frame as portions of it rust I’m keeping it. I does have the front rocker bubbling on Botha sides…..which will eventually be a project.

I have actually put 3rd gens back together that the frames were ready to break. I am still driving my first frame repair one. I did in 2015. Being back then, I didn't really have a clue yet how to weld and plate decently.
So now I am going to have to fix areas again. It was the learning experimental rig.
So the forum members will be able to see what not to do when plating frames. Also what happens if you do nothing more then just weld steel in and that's it. 7 years later. Should be interesting to see. Should also help members see why I changed the methods over the years as well.

I bought mine a few years ago, and pretty sure with the modifications and current market I could sell it for double. But I won't!

Bought mine 3 years ago, a 97 with 250k miles 2wd limited, had a gnarly dent in the roof and bad paint and mold from a water leak. Got it for $650. After a long weekend of replacing odds and ends everything functions right and no more water leaks.

I bought my 02 Limited with 190k about 3 years ago for $6500 (it was super clean with great repair records.) Since then I've put on 50k, a number of scratches and dents, a few minor mods (slight lift), and it got totaled and rebuilt (Minor accident with superficial damage to both bumpers, fixed with a hammer and wood blocks. Actually, kind worked out to my benefit as the truck works fine for me and I got $3.5k back from insurance.) I am 100% certain I could get close to what I paid for it given today's market.
I feel so lucky to have joined this cult when I did. The membership fee is outrageous now!
But I can't escape the anxiety of knowing how hard it would be to replace it if something catastrophic happened. It runs like a top, but with the dings and a rebuilt title, insurance wouldn't give me shit for it.

Funny thing, I'm trying to scrap a 3rd gen that the body is cancer, the motor/trans/xfer case is missing, and every body panel is beat up...
It's going to cost more to scrap it than I could make by parting out what is left of it. Pick n Pull wanted 200 dollars for me to bring it to THEM! As in I spend my gas money towing it to them, and I pay them 200 dollars to take it from me!
I ended up towing it out to my friends property and he is parting out every last usable piece on it.

Wow.. We can cut them up and get $10.50 per hundred or 10.5 cents a pound for the metal. Maybe different states are different. Here you can not take a car in without a title. Unless its just pieces.
You only have a shell left is probably why nobody wants it. I cant say I don't blame them as its not a complete car.. Hence, why they don't want it. Its not worth their time to go get it. As it is just scrap metal value.
After your done taking all you can off.. Cut it up and take it in for metal. I have one like that here. I need to finish taking apart then I will scrap what i don't want. :-)

That's the plan. We are even going to cut out the T-case Xmember and sell that to a friend of mine doing a 4wd conversion! We will be putting every single possible piece back on a truck!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Look at all the resources we are saving by doing these things... We are green and don't even know it.
