3.4 coil issue
I think I found that cylinder 3 and 6 fire from same coil is that true ? If true, how could that coil be bad just for cylinder 6 ? I’m getting a p0306 and with it running I pull the wire off and there is no difference it the way it runs which tells me it’s not firing.I left the 6 cylinder plug in and route the wire to top of engine to test for spark by inserting another plug in the wire so it can spark with it running and it does, so that tells me it’s working .The wire should be good, plug good, coil good,no fluid leak,I seriously doubt it’s a gasket problem. The wire is rerouted across the top of engine in case that position was shorting and I couldn’t detect it. I’m clearing code now to restart with new wire position to cylinder 6

There are two sides to each coil so you can have a misfire on 1 cylinder and not the other

3.4 coil/p0306 code
Still have code, swapped center coil for rear coil, still number 6 does not hit,new plug,no difference.gonna be driving it two hours home .Another question I’d like to ask, what tells that coil it’s time to fire, the code is specific, seems the only thing left.I even tried a new coil. Thanks in advance for looking and giving thought to this problem.1998 3.4,auto,160,000,

Did you buy new spark plug wires? They are known to fail and that could explain why swapping coils didn't make a difference as you are using the same spark plug wire.

3.4,cylinder 6,not firing
Gamefreak-yes same wire, but re routed on top of enginelaying there with plug in it it had spark with that wire on end of the plug,
Brillo-I can see inside cylinder 6,not really wet nor was the non firing plug, you might be right on with injector being problem.Any simple way to troubleshoot that,I have never done it.I have heard they rebuild them,or maybe some just cleaning ?
Thanks you guys ,I am really not wanting to drive it 120 miles like that ,thanks again

If you have spark, and you have air, the only thing missing is fuel.
Replace the injector, or all of them

He’s still got a few things he can check or verify before throwing an injector at it. I would do a wet and dry compression test and verify the injector is getting a signal before replacing the injector.

-What is the brand of wires you're using?
-What is the gap on your spark plugs?
-Did the spark look crisp and blue-ish when you tested it out of the vehicle?
-have you measured the resistances of the coil and wire per the FSM?
-If you have a stethoscope you might be able to touch the injector on cyl#6 and listen if it's physically working. Granted, it's a ***** to reach...
A failed injector is a possible culprit, but there are other things that could also be the cause.
