Well my search for a New Toyota rebuilt 35010-3G170-84 (2001 4wd auto trans) is nearing its end. It has been nearly 4 months and no word or expectation of it from the folks looking (a friend who works at a parts dealer).
So plan B is to have it rebuilt locally. Anyone on here know of a shop I can trust?
Not looking for low cost necessarily, just good work, done once and never want to see them again, no offense. thanks in advance.

Not in Austin, but I know a great shop in Amarillo... they both start with A, that's close enough right?
Precision Transmission would be your friend if so. They have a youtube channel so you can see their work - they'll probably have it broken down fully within 10-30 minutes with their eyes closed
Contact Yota1 Performance in Riverbank, California. They can ship you one and then you ship them back yours to satisfy the core charge. Yota1 Performance has a great reputation in the industry. I personally know the owners and they are good people.
I realize the shipping expense might be cost prohibitive but give them a call to find out what the shipping would be each way. The cost of their rebuild plus the shipping cost might be competitive with what a local rebuilder might charge you.
All I know is I trust Yota1 and I'd buy from them before buying from an unknown. If you call them, ask to talk with Nick or Rebecca. They are the owners. Tell them Timmy the Toolman referred you.

Good luck!

Ok - I've messaged them for now, will wait a few days and call if not heard back by then. Thanks, Luck to you too. jg.

$2650 + 300 shipping, so same price as what a new rebuild from Toyo would be, so I'm going this route.
Thanks for the prodding T.

I do know of a Toyota specialty shop in Austin, so I'll probably swing by there and see what they have to say next week, I'm tired of waiting - been since July, ugg.

OK so tough choices for me now. Yota1 offers up $2950 and Joe Joe offers up $3470, $520 difference.
Yota1 says 30 days out, not sure about Joe Joe, I asked some about it last evening, not heard back yet. Also he did not mention anything about a core charge, yet I'm sure there is one.
Which direction would you go?

Both will require a core charge and both will require a shipping charge. Joe Joe must have an angle on some Toyota remanufactured units that are still available. From what I have heard, Toyota doesn't remanufacture them anymore. If he indeed has one, he could get it to you in less than 30 days. I guess it depends if getting it quicker is worth the $520 difference. I'm assuming the shipping will be similar for both.

JoeJoe has to be super connected as I heard like you did. As Toyota I believe discounted the remfg on our 3rd gen transmissions..

It must be old stock Joe Joe has access to. He sells a high volume of parts for Toyota, so yes, he is very connected and Toyota takes care of him.
I use to always recommend people buy a remanufactured transmission from Toyota, but once I learned Toyota stopped doing it and also learned Yota1 Performance is now rebuilding auto and manual transmissions, I've been referring people to buy from Yota1.
Very soon I will be partnering with Yota1 to make rebuild videos of the auto and manual transmissions. These will be super awesome videos to provide to the DIY Mechanic Community.

Did you try Mr. Transmission in San Antonio? I got my LC 2000 trans rebuilt in July 2022 and they did a fantastic job. So far no complaints. I paid $3881 out the door with the OEM engine rear main seal, typically it is about $1700-3000, but my transmission was explored destroying all the moving parts inside the transmission hence, $3881)Their work comes with 12K miles/1 Year warranty (within SA area). It took about 3 week for them to get all the parts to put it back together because it is very hard to find LC parts. If you call them ask for Robert and state Nissan (who rebuilt the Land Cruiser transmission) referred you there.
Oh.. they do offer free towing but not sure all the way from Austin.

There’s an outfit back is that does the Toyota remanufacturing. I want to say it’s in Georgia? man I can’t remember the name. I think they do transmissions also, but I know for sure they do engines. My local parts Toyota manager turned me onto that one.
