WANTED: Toyota mechanic near Roanoke Virginia

My 3rd gen has a clunking in the front end. I just paid $1700 for a new steering rack and driver's side wheel bearing to be installed. The clunking is still there and I someone who knows these vechicles to take a look and listen. Please pm me a message with a name and number. Thank you!

Are you ever down in North Carolina, Raleigh area? I'd look for free.

It's probably something relatively simple like lower control arm bushings or swaybar links.

What does the clunking sound like, and what are you doing with the vehicle when it happens?

When I'm on uneven ground usually while turning around the front end clunks. I'm getting kind of old to be climbing underneath the vechicle and pulling those heavy wheels off. I wished after $1700 the problem would be fixed but they did do some major work. I just want the problem fixed and not have to worry about something serious going wrong considering my mileage. Thank you for the reply/offer.

Is it safe to drive without the sway bars connected?

Yes you can drive a 4 runner without sway bars connected. Probably best to drop it all the way out for testing. I think it's 6 bolts.

You notice a difference when you go into a turn. As they are anti sway bars. They keep the vehicle more stabile and less bouncy on turns.

Thank you for the replies guys! I got under her this morning and removed the 2 brackets holding the sway bar. They looked good and nothing seemed to be binding on the end joints. I regreased them and installed them. All of the other joints and bushings I saw both front and rear looked fine. Something is still binding but I can live with it. I don't feel anything major is going to fail. Ride on...

I see in your signature that your truck has 289k on it.

Have you ever replaced the lower balljoints? If not, new OEM ones should be #1 on your to-do list (for safety). They fail catastrophically.
