Applying wax to hidden areas- stupid or smart?

Whenever I remove something on the exterior and get access to normally hidden body paint I'll wipe it down and apply wax.

I assume that paint in places behind the bumpers or under the front window cowl is still outside, so could benefit from a layer of protection from time to time.

Am I making a dumb assumption because I've never seen anyone else do this?

Wax isn't going to hurt it. However, you making yourself a lot more work for yourself. That's you call though. If you like your rig waxed that way do it that way . It's your rig and you do as you wish.

I do it too if it makes you feel any better,
In theory it should provide some protection for the panels, really just a matter of how much for how long.

You're applying body wax to areas you can't see and are otherwise hidden/covered? Am I reading this right?

It's a great practice on Toyota's due to poor design features. Toyota is notorious for making panels that collect water, and rot from the inside. This has been an issue on most 4runner's and Landcruiser's. You can use something called cavity wax, and that's exactly what it's designed for.

If it makes you feel any better I typically do that. For example, when I took my hatch spoiler brackets off to clean them I applied some wax on the paint underneath. Though I don't usually bother with stuff like door jambs or sheet metal underneath light housings.

I do too, if I take something off like a light or bumper, and there is paint under, I do wipe it down and wax it. Figured cant hurt

Yes, the general idea is if I replace a bulb in my taillight, clean out all the dirt and put some wax on it. Or any part really. The wax fills in the micro scratches to the surface where water and eventually dirt build up making a smooth surface. In theory prevents a build up of dirt and water, and looks nice too
