You can also run the higher amp alts in the older rigs if you want. Just make sure you keep track of it. Probably be best to swap out the fuse and charging wire. Granted its 10 amps more and both the higher and lower modules don't exceed the 90 amp fuse in the older 3rd gens. ( 70 and 80amp)

Just don't make the mistake of putting the lower amperage one in the late modules.

The alt fuses are 1996-1998 [100 amp] 1999-2002 [120amp]

Rule of thumb is stick what matches the rigs. :-)

Is the ground that goes from the firewall, by the heater valve, to the back of the passenger side head the only motor to chassis ground? I checked continuity on both that one and the battery to chassis and they were both good. But I am going to pull the motor to chassis and make sure it is clean.

No that's the ground for the head.

Your negative terminal starter ground goes down the the block next to the oil filter. :-)

As long as you have a Japan spec Phillips screwdriver it’s easy.

Is there a part number for that set?

Blowing Alternators

Do you know which Alt you have?
I think the 27370 number is a fully loaded 70a.

Edit: the two part numbers before the last number are the OEM and Denso part numbers for the Alternator. I’m pretty sure it’s for the 70a Alt. The 80a Alt is totally different.

I bought this a few years back to have a JIS screwdriver in the toolbox. It really does work better on any Japanese screws you have to deal with. Highly recommended

Good info. Are the bearings that come with the Maniac kits made in China? Guessing that's why you have the other part numbers listed. I always assumed they were and just bought rebuilt Denso alternators

I'm still amazed that my original one still works....It might help to take apart the broken one and figure out why it is failing. I think there is a diode in there that you can check with a multimeter.

Electrical problems are not fun. What happened to the other car?

The Manaic kit I used just for the VR. It was made in China. Didn’t feel like spending over 100 dollars for an OEM or napa voltage regulator for the sake of troubleshooting. The VR is still going strong. The problem ended up being a bad diode in the bridge…..

Well, almost a year in on the Denso Alternator and we are still going strong. I will add my voice to the others that stated the parts house alternators just are not good. Save yourself time and buy a Denso.
