12 volt outlet and cigarette lighter removal

So I finally received my new dash bezel. Got the old clock, air vents, etc. off but I don't see how to remove the old 12 volt outlets and cigarette lighter.

Has anyone done this before or is there a write up? I searched on here and also google/youtube but can't find anything. The little black things that hold them from the back are not something you can just push in.

Thanks in advance!

That's a good question I never touched the 12 volt connector. They have to come off though or you nee dash bezel would have came with them if they ate not removible.

There are two slots opposite each other more like holes.
You can also buy a cigarette lighter socket removal tool or use a 90 degree pick and push the tabs in those slots down while pulling it forward or pushing it from the back.

I just did this and they don’t come out how you think or how any YouTube video shows
Pay attention to where you feel it snag and then put a small flat head in that spot. Mine were in the 12 o’clock position.
You actually have the lift the black plastic off the socket tin.
The holes you see inside do nothing
And the socket is keyed so they only go in and come out one way
I had to sacrifice one to find out how it worked.
The black tabs you see push inward once the socket is removed.

Ok so I did it, by removing the nut on the back, and then as suggested, using a screwdriver to push in on the black thingy in one of the holes. The inner mechanism slid out, and then yes, you can then push in the black tabs on the back, removing the 12 volt things and cigarette lighter.

I did break one of the covers for the 12 volt outlets during this task. But overall, thankful to get this done and install the new bezel.

Note that the black bezel is now a discontinued product from Toyota and is hard to find.
