Sharing a hack I used to create my own CV axle seal install tool when I replaced mine a few months ago.

I bought a small piece of PVC pipe (2.75" exterior diameter) measured down 5 mm and traced a circle in pencil around the PVC. Wrapped the whole thing in duct tape until I had layers stacked to about 3/8".

Used this to tap in seal with a rubber mallet. Just don't pound on it to the point of deforming the duct tape and you'll stop at that 5 mm depth. Worked great for me and only cost about $2.50 and about 20 minutes of time.

That is the most accurate roll of grey tape I have ever seen! Wow!

Excellent idea! Cheap and effective. Reminds me of using pieces of PVC to install fork seals on my dirtbike in the late 90s when seal tools were hundred of dollars.

This is for the seal on the diff, yes? Nice work, regardless!

There is no "depth setting" for the CV dust shield, just hammer it till it stops lol

Changing the Seals

Great question. If you are switching out the driver side CV axle, just to make sure both sides are brand new, switch both the driver side and passenger side axles and seals. You can watch some videos about it from Timmy the Toolman.

Bad answer

The differential axle seals are different between passenger and driver side, you can't switch them.
