fuel coming from the frame rail
So I just replaced my charcoal canister assembly today. Easy as can be. When I pulled up to the gas station I noticed fuel pouring from the driver side frame rail. I mean it was coming out like a mother.... So i just parked it and called a tow truck to pick it up and take it to my buddies shop first thing in the morning. I am not to mechanically inclined and was wondering what your thoughts are as to what could be going on?
Any input is greatly appreciated.. cause this vehicle is not going anywhere until I figure out the source of my problem.

Forgot to add that part, sorry about that. It is just before the front left tire. It is just before the driver side cv area. Not the best description, but I am at work and can't post a picture.

Sounds like a broken fuel line, gotta get CSI on it with a flashlight.

I also have this issue. Dumping out fuel on front left (driver) frame rail. The fuel lines running from tank look dry. I just replaced the tank, pump, and filter. It seems to happen before truck gets up to temp, it was dumping out today around temp of 85F.
I understand the evap system dumps into frame rail, maybe an evap system issue?

The leak is coming from this hose on the vapor canister, which connects down into the frame rail below. What would cause this?

If all that was replaced and it didnt do it before, maybe 2 lines might have been swapped back at the tank.

That's quite plausible! It wouldn't be the first time I put something back together backwards. Although if that were the case would the truck still run well? It seemed to drive just great for a couple of miles...then parked it, then saw fuel dumping out.
Also, lots of pressure in the tank - when i open cap it hisses. even 24 hours later!
I'm going to go ahead and order a new vapor canister while I'm trying to figure this out, in case that's the real reason. I figure it's 26 years old so it's bound to go soon anyway.

This is exactly what happened. I got 2 of the lines mixed up and the return line was dumping fuel into the charcoal canister instead of back to the tank, because, well, sometimes I put things back together backwards lol. I also replaced the charcoal canister figuring all that gas would take a while to evap, and may have ruined it. When I pulled charcoal canister a few days later I dumped maybe half cup of gas out of it.
All is running well now with new tank, new pump, new filter, new vapor canister!

After installing my fuel pump in the tank and double-checking everything, mine fired up and ran great for about 7 miles.
Then started bucking and I knew I was in trouble. A guy in a pool truck was honking at me and I knew I was in trouble...
I made it the 1 mile back to my house with gas hemorrhaging out of the frame, and I was at that point riding a guided missile, leaving a trail of gun powder like in a Wile E Coyote cartoon.
I finally cracked the gas cap and it sounded like I opened the door on an airliner at 30,000 feet. The leak soon stopped.
I then hosed down the slab and gravel parking lot for 30 minutes with Dawn detergent. All of my neighbors now walk their dogs with a fire extinguisher.
I'll swap the hoses in the morning and report the results in this thread. I'll research how to clean out the evap canister - if it's even necessary.
Thank God for this forum, you guys saved me yet again.

So I swapped the Evap and Return Fuel Lines to their proper placement.
I started the 4Runner and let it run for about 20 minutes while I worked in the yard. No leaks Yay!.
So... I moved the 4Runner to the other side of the yard, looked down only to find it dripping from the same spot under the frame by the front driver wheel. I ran to get the engine shut down, got the battery disconnected, and grabbed the fire extinguisher, only to find out it was water coming from the frame from when I hosed it down earlier in the week. Heart attack mode activated...
I'll leave it sitting there until the weekend, I need a break from this rollercoaster repair -
That said... mark the hoses beforehand, they are nearly identical - do not trust the hose clips like I did.

Great pics, hopefully it will help someone else!
When i removed my vapor canister about a week later, fuel dumped out of it. I replaced my canister, if you didnt, you might want to take yours off and empty fuel out, maybe set it in the sun to ensure any remaining gas evoporates.
