Joshv4runner Build Thread
Alright fellow 3rd 4runner fans, im a long time lurker and well its about time I started my own build thread. Like everyone else, this will be a budget build due to going to school and other stuff in life. Well anyways, I had a 2nd gen 4runner as my first 4runner and sold it and later upgraded to a 1999 3rd gen which I later totaled about a month ago due to a stupid ice storm here in Central Arkansas and some ignorance on my part. After insurance totaled it and gave me some cash back, the search for another 3rd gen began. After many long nights on craigslist and calling many people, I found the perfect 4runner in El Paso, Tx with some Downey coilovers, custom rocksliders, e-locker, and low miles. So i made arrangements with the seller and I flew down south last week to pick her up and bring her home to the Ozarks. I know you guys like pictures, so dont go all crazy yet. lol
Here I am at the airport waiting for her to meet her owner.
Decided to head to New Mexico and do a little wheeling.
My first deal of buisness this weekend is to knockout some basic maintenance on her. I will keep everyone posted on what future mods are in the future and Im open to any opinions you guys have. Its an honor to be part of a great 4runner community here

Congrats Josh. Good looking rig! I look forward to seeing this build. I'm sure I'll be helping you work on it at some point haha.

Oh yeah. Good looking 4runner.
I've noticed more and more central Arkansas folks showing up. I'm in Texarkana. Ya'll get out to the Hot Springs ORV very often?

I'm there a handful of times throughout the year. I'm in a local club here (Razorback Land Cruisers) and we hold an event called the Razorback Ramble there every year. Other trips include day rides, weekend trips, watching special events, or going to other club functions. A good function not to miss every year is the Cottonland Southern Cruiser Crawl. We also do some Ouchita forest day/weekend trips.

Good color. I love my black but now Im kinda wishing my 3rd gen was desert dune or millenium silver because black is just so difficult to keep clean, especially in a midwestern winter.
How many miles? Can I ask what you paid?

Just an update of known issues I have and that will get fixed in the following order.
1. Install tranny cooler this weekend
2. Order and install new rear o2 sensor
3. Order LED bulbs for the dash gauge
4. Find sourse of t-case leak
Memory card is MIA and will post pics once I get ahold of it.

Looks great. Good blend of stock and modded. Good that you're taking care of the maintenance early too.

Yes, I'm trying to knock out the basic maintenance first before I go into ant modding. I also found some othesmall issues likethe tranny temp gauge won't work and light up when I'm driving on the streets, but when I'm on the highway it works but does not light up and every now and then it just flickers. Could it be that its not grounded correctly? Also my t-case is leaking....could not pinpoint the leak , but I did some searching and it could be the inner, outer shaft seals, top shifter seal or maybe the t-case has to be completely resealed (I hope not).
Once I find my memory card I'll post pics after work.

Text me a pic of the transfer case leak and I'll see if I can diagnose it. Mine has been leaking for some time. Usually it's the output shaft seal, pretty positive that's where mine is coming from.

Weekend maintenance
Alright so this past weekend I went and ahead and did some basic maintenance and fix some issues.
First issue was to send the digital climate control to some guy on ebay to refurbish it...That little sucka had a mind of its own and did not want to stay at the temp I wanted to, so off ya go
Next was to clean the TB and MAF sensor
I had a code come up earlier that week and ordered a rear denso o2 sensor....but I think I ordered the wrong one? I ordered the 234-162
I knew I had a t-case leak so I took some pics to see if any of you 3rd gen gods can help me pin-point the leak. I did some researching and it could be the inner, outer shaft seals or the shifter seal. I'm hoping I don't have to take the t-case off ..If its the shaft seals ill be following this thread
Replacing Transfer Case Output Shaft Oil Seals, a How-To for DIY'ers
Leaking from the top?
Gas tank skid with residue of gear oil
Hopefully the pics help, if not let me know if somebody wants one more detailed. Thanks guys!
