'98 lift questions (from a noob)

Hey everyone, with my 4runner still in the shop after nearly totaling it three months ago, I've been saving up money to get myself a 2-2.5" lift. I've done some research into kits and other options and (considering i'm a total noobie at these) still have a couple questions about it. I've been looking at the SRQ 5100/OME lift.

Right now, I'm thinking of getting the OME 881s for the front and the 906s in the back to compensate for the sag (unfortunately the vin on my 4runner is like 6 off from the recall, if I remember). If I were to keep the rear shocks I have already and got the Dynamics that the site recommends, what else, realistically, would I need to get it to work without any other suspension problems.?

My other question is the following: I bought a pair of used '07 rear FJ springs a while ago and was considering those. Would I need to buy new shocks if I installed those in the back, and/or what else would I need to get it to work, anything in the front?

Thankfully I'm at a point financially where I can shell out some more compared to a very inexpensive Rough Country 3" lift.

Any help would be appreciated, sorry for the questions, I don't really understand any of this lol.

I would go with the tried and true OME/bilstein 5100 setup.

Yeah you can use the fj cruiser springs in the rear no biggie with your stock shocks or regular travel 5100’s. They don’t seat perfectly but plenty of members run them and don’t have issues. They also don’t hold weight very well, at least mine don’t so if you’re planning on adding weight in the rear you might want to consider different springs. Mine will have noticeable sag if I’m all loaded up with tools in the trunk.

Also not sure on your maintenance in the front suspension and stuff but from my experience once you start changing the stock suspension geometry other parts tend not to like it too much, so I would budget for other parts needing replacement after lift. Or as an alternative you could do a body lift and leave the stock suspension as is. All depends on your wants and comfort level.

Any reason why you're set on the FJ springs for the rear? You really want a compatible set of struts and springs for a good ride and tuned performance. Using what you have is great, but springs are one of the least expensive parts of the equation. Having them work with your shock travel and (future?) weight load is pretty important. Have you taken a look at the Suspension Sticky thread on here?

What is your budget if you don't mind me asking? If you don't want to spend more than about $800 for all 4 corners - I've done the basic Bilstein/OME 2" lift and have I some ideas about it. One of which is if you plan to do any significant wheeling, carry Much more weight, etc., skip it and go straight to a 3+" lift and the couple other mods that come with it so you don't have the suspension expense again as you build out your rig. Since you have 4:30 gears you can easily justify some 33s, right?

mainly just because i already have them, im okay with using others, but figured if I could use something i already have could be nice. I don't have many plans to carry anything heavy in the back at the moment which is why I was thinking them.

for me right now my budget is about 1000$ which is why i was thinking the OME lift plus whatever maintenance comes from that.

so I think i'm going to get bilstein 5100 front struts and rear shocks and the 880s/906s. Is that enough for what I want (2")? I don't want it to be lopsided or anything, also don't want to drop the diff, so I want to make sure before I bite the bullet and order.

For the rears, I would get 890's. When I had 906's they always seemed like they were too short, kept getting loose...haha

It's been a year, which means that I'm looking at getting a lift again for this spring and summer!

I've already gotten a pair of RCD adjustable 5100s for the front with some TRD Tundra coils, but now I'm trying to figure out the back setup. I'd like to go with 2.5-3 inches of lift, which I believe the TRDs will give me in the front, but now I'd like some input on what to do next. I am going to get 5100s in the rear, but the coil question is the main thing here.

I've seen a few FB posts in my area of people selling different rear coils, so I'm interested in those.

There's one guy selling OME 891s, which I've read give 2-3 inches of lift WITH 150lbs in the back for less than new.
@Iron duke is also selling some extended travel 5100s which I'm tempted to get, but would that be too much?

OR am I better off just getting a set of 890s with the normal 5100s? Looking for some ideas or better options

One more thing: I wouldn't put the TRD Springs above the 2nd perch unless you're getting a bumper and a winch. The front will be too tall for the 890's otherwise. Your lift should measure ~22.5" from hub center to the fender lip or about 2" above a 1999 stock truck.

Also, if you want a little rake after the rear settles (1/2" or so), make sure you use the stock coil isolators in the rear AND an OME 10mm trim packer per side. Use the coil isolators regardless if you go with the trim packers.

Agreed. You can bind CV's and will have a harsh ride if you go more than the second perch with no front end weight.

Also think about a diff drop, too. Some people like them and some don't. I personally like them and have one on my rig. I also have high articulation axles so I think that helps a lot, too.

Found a pair of used LC80 springs for sale. $40 in Cali, not sure if the seller would want to ship or not. But here's the link. I'm not associated with the seller in any way, just wanted to pass along some info.

Those 8 wraps will give more than 4" of lift in the rear and will require the Tokico Black shocks + PCK. You really don't want to use those without carrying a lot of weight or aftermarket bumper/tire carrier.
