Need to replace the frame mounted bushings on both sides of my frame of my 2000 4R at the back. Wondering the easiest way to do so? I have taken off the nuts on 3 rear (of the 5 per side mounts). Jacked up under a sturdy section of the bumper. Am able to raise the body but I'm wondering if there are things I need to be concerned about? After raising it a few inches seems I still need a few more and don't want to stretch anything or snap anything. Figured doing one side at a time. Would seem maybe easier to be able to pull the long shafted bolt up from inside the cab but I'm thinking I would have to pull apart the interior carpet in order to do so making this an even bigger job...

Curious as well. What do your mounts look like? Or rather why do you think you need to replace them?

You are far better off taking the edges of the carpet up to remove the bolts than to try and lift the body high enough to clear the bolts from the mounts. You will stretch or pull something if you don't.

Are you using OEM rubber? Any part numbers by chance?
I get a little lost looking them up and can't always tell what's what.

It doesn't take much to pop up the sill trim and get access to all the bolts. Don't lift more than necessary to pull out the rubber portion of the mounts from the divot they sit in. Make sure both sides are loose, but only lift one side at a time. If you are putting on poly mounts, make sure they are greased.

Here's mine - you can see that you only need about 1" to 1.5" above the frame to do all the work. Any more and lots of things need to be disconnected:

You guys are worried about the rubber mounts wearing out. I am more concerned about the steel body mount rotting out....:/

Do a body lift while replacing those body mounts...

I am curious if the 1 to 3 inch body lifts change the center of gravity much?

I've got a 1" body and haven't noticed DRASTIC changes in my center of gravity. I mean you can't take a corner above 20 to 25 miles an hour, but that's about it really. I'm happy with what I've got but I don't think I'd go higher than 1.5" if I were to do it over again.

I think the big things to worry about are the steering rag joint and the lines going back to the rear heater from what I've seen in the videos talking about body lifts. Maybe fuel and brakes lines too? Timmy the Toolman has a good video on it. I'm still surprised that my 270k 3rd gen the body mount bushings are still quite supple, was checking those yesterday when I was greasing the zirks.

It's not a hard job, and yes you need to pull back the carpets to get to the bolts. And you need the spacer for the rag joint. I did new body mounts the same time I did a one inch body lift, you know, since you are already in there...

Unfamiliar what a rag joint is? If my main objective is the 2 rear mounts, figuring on just unbolting the 3 of 5 per side towards back, hopefully the 2 fronts being bolted in should still be ok. Not fixing things that arent broke. Body lift makes sense if you are already in there but yes, considerations to cog are one.... The other - 1 inch? Really that much difference to warrant? I replaced shocks and springs a couple years ago thinking the clunking I was hearing was the bump stops. The additional lift was nice and that seems a better way to get more height if you are sagging. I cant see any benefit to lifting the body another inch?
