My heads are off and in shop ideas.

I have a nice 250,000 mile 2000 SR5 with a cracked head. The machine shop is replacing the cracked one with a new head and rebuilding both. I am doing the water pump, timing belt and new radiator hose’s. Is there and thing I should replace well I have both heads off. Thanks Dave

Buy the YotaShop head replacement kit. It includes everything you will need to replace the heads. from head bolts to knock sensor wiring harness to exhaust gaskets to crank and cam seals to valve stem seals.

I’ve used three of them on my projects so far.

They probably are, but make sure that the valve shims get measured and adjusted in the old head.

For sure this. Tim beat me to it. Not a reason in the world to not change that harness and sensor.

Maybe some new head bolts. The heater valve above the engine might be worth inspecting since the coolant is out. If the radiator has never been replaced, I would change it also since the coolant is out.

We could debate, whether messing with the fuel injectors, makes sense or not.

Good call on taking care of things while you’re in there.

The machine shop is rebuilding the heads for me and they are doing the valves. They are doing the valve lash and we talked about it. They have done more than a few dozen of these. I have new head blots as well. Thanks Dave

Hoses

Replace ALL rubber hoses, check the valve clearance anyway when you get it back when I had my head came back one exhaust valve was tight.

It’s worth cleaning or having the injectors cleaned unless they were done recently.

My build and repair thread shows how to rebuild the injectors and what kit to buy.
