Good ideas. I still go my way full hitch pulling on both rails. I send a photo when I build one.

I agree that entire area up front is just crush can. Even the Frame rails have crush areas in them as too

I will use the 4 bolt holes and then some to build a decent hitch. That way it pulls on the entire frame to pull evenly.

This is off topic, but related. You clearly know what your stuff on these vehicle's frames. I've queried but haven't found a definitive answer (and don't have enough activity to be allowed to create a thread) I need to replace the frame rail bracket/body mount on the driver's side located behind the LF wheel opening. It's rusted out and collapsed. The Toyota part number that I THINK it is, 5170435150, is listed as a 99 -02 part not fitting my 98 with nothing for a 98 and earlier still available. In one of your posts you mentioned that the frames were pretty much the same on all of the years. I'd appreciate you thoughts

The body are the same from 1996-2002 and the 1 frame difference is the front bumper earlier years are flat and the 1999 up are fat lipped.

The 2nd frame difference other then the front bumper change is in 1996 they added another body mount in the middle in 1997 for crash safety in the middle rail.

They should be the same and I see what you mean the brackets part numbers are different from the early years to the later.

Mostly that means there is some sort of change. The only thing I can suggest is that you grab one of the new ones and compare. It probably will work with Just a slight change.

The collision repair manual does not change from 1996 to 2002. :-)

And, just to be exhaustive, there was a change in the #2 body mount brackets (just behind the front wheels) in August of 1999, so for the 2000 MY. Learned that swapping my '99 rusted out frame for a 2002. Means you have to use different mount hardware but the body side is the same.

Technically, as with the front, the frame is the same, but the welded on bracket is listed as a separate piece and that is what changes. Any frame will have one or the other welded on.

So there was a bracket change on that part number. Explain the part number change. Thank you for the information @TheDurk . That's #3 frame change in. Corresponds with the fat lip bumper.

To be super clear - the '99 frame is fat-lipped, but has the 'old' style mount behind the front wheels. '00-'02 has the newer mount in that location. Check the part numbers from Energy Suspension for the two different poly body mount kits...

Yes, I found that out when buying the wrong body mount kit. As mentioned, the B pillar Mount was converted to a three bolt mount just like the rear mount.

While that change is listed as a 2000 to 2002 model year it seems like some of the late 99 model year trucks got that frame, too. Both of my '99s, 2wd and 4WD, were mid-year production, May and July, and had the older style mounts.

Interesting. Mostly the next model year change is August. So anything August on should be the next model year. Before August is current year back to last August. As far as I know.

Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge. At the risk of seeming clueless and simplistic (hey, a guy's got to know his limitations as Clint Eastwood once said), it would seem I really need to find to find the correct bracket specific to my model year (pre mid 99) and really can't use the new style, correct? Since Toyota states it's not available is anyone aware of an aftermarket company that makes them?

You can use either bracket on any body. You just have to have the correct hardware between the bracket and the bolt.
