Roof rack from fence post….

So I purchased a soft shell RTT which will be here Tuesday. In preparation I decided to build a rack to support this as the stock crossbars are not amazing. Total cost was ~150 bucks.

Pretty simple to build, just cutting pipe to length and fitting it into end caps. Beats paying 600+ for some fancy rack that does the exact same thing and I can actually use my sunroof. May not be the prettiest thing out there but it’s functional. Any questions as to how I built it or what I used LMK.

Also yes I know my roof looks horrendous, compliments of the PO.

That actually looks really clean and quite nice. Even more impressive is your ability to re-purpose something made for something else.

Although I didn't re-purpose my roof rack, like you, I made my own and spent $300 on making it (not counting the fairing). Glad I didn't spend $1K+.

@the_welfare_wagon Any plans to paint it? Nicely done though dude. I dig that, especially the fact that you took into consideration your moonroof. Looks good!

Eventually I plan on doing it black but that’s for once the weather warms up. It’s galvanized so it should withstand the harsh weather and exposure till I can get that done

Nope no noise whatsoever even 65mph with the sunroof totally open. That’s one of the reasons why I stopped it before the sunroof. Couldn’t stand the noise the old rack made even with it closed
