Case closed, bad battery. I'll have to exchange it this weekend. This time, I'll bring my volt meter with so I can check the batteries on the shelf to make sure the one I pick is fully charged.

Thanks everyone

Good to hear.

I found the date code on the battery. It was made in Jan of 2021 so its been sitting on a shelf for two years.

Probably explains why it won't hold a good charge anymore.

It’s not good letting starter batteries go below 80% charge. That’s when the sulfates ungell and start sticking to the plates.

I exchanged the battery and with the new one, she fired right up. Should be all good now but if something changes, I'll report back.

Where did you manage to find a 2 year old AC Delco battery for sale? Wow!

Well, never shop there again and always check date codes; 90 days old is the maximum, less than 30 is ideal. if you have a question about the status of a battery the best way, if you don't have your own tester, is to take it to a local parts store and let them test it. It's free and saves you a lot of trouble.

I got the battery at Menards. AC delco doesn't put a simple date sticker on their batteries (01/23 etc). So when I was buying it, I didn't take the time to google search how to find the date code on the sticker (mistake). After I was having issues, I looked up the date code for AC delco batteries and found that it was two years old (01/21).

When I exchanged it, I brought my volt meter and checked the newest battery they had which was from October of 22. Measured 12.56 volts. The oldest battery they had on the shelf in that size was from 09/22. Not sure how a two year old battery was still on the shelf but I managed to get it.

Yeah, no fault on your part. Terrible that they aren't maintaining their stock. Well, you're armed with some battery knowledge now. Shop where they keep up with their battery's age and rotate out old ones. I am fortunate to have access to an Interstate store as well as Batteries plus Bulbs. I also found that the local Toyota dealership's price on the Toyota battery was competitive with big box store batteries, and fresh.

Amen to getting to the root of the problem and getting it fixed.
