When I had a metal on metal grinding sound on my other car, it was a bad wheel bearing....

Wheel bearing can make metal grounding sound or they will whine and howl like crazy before they come apart and fail.

Hope this helps. :-) If that wheel bearing is bad, the cv will be moving around up and down left or right against that bearing. Lots of times, you can feel roughness when spinning them as well too.

So after I took the knuckle off the cv axle and put it back together, the metal grinding sound went away. The clicking is still there though and it’s definitely from the passenger side with the Napa axle I just replaced. Had somebody stand outside the vehicle to confirm that for me. The clicking gets progressively faster as the vehicle moves faster. Is that the bearing? Gonna head home and jack it up to check for play in the tire. Will update soon.

Ok, so I jacked the front end up again and found the drivers side tire had a bit of play in it when I shook it horizontally (from 9 to 3), but not the passenger side, the one that’s making the clicking noise. I’m at a loss here, not sure what’s going on. Maybe both wheel bearings need to be replaced. 🤷🏼

If you have play in the drivers 9 to 3 position. Make sure the inner tie rod is not causing it. As it could be tie rod play instead of wheel bearing play in the 9 and 3 position.

The clicking I see has not been narrowed down or found yet.

Exactly what Brillo said.
Generally speaking…….
Movement in wheel @ the 9-3 position points at worn steering components.
Movement at the 12-6 position points to wheel bearing wear.

Does it click only in corners, or when going straight as well?

It sounds like a pretty lightweight noise, but sound recording is often iffy on a phone.

Good advice, but always verify that the play isn't just the steering wheel turning as well. I went down a rabbit hole because of that one time...

You had mentioned that you noticed a damaged inner seal on the knuckle? That would point me in the direction of the wheel bearing. Logic being a compromised seal would allow oil out and contaminants in. Or possibly the bearing failed first, and the unsupported/misaligned axle damaged the seal.

Difficult to say without seeing it. I would personally remove the cv axle from the hub and rotate the hub by hand feeling for any play, grinding, tight spots as others have mentioned.

If the bearing is good and the cv axle is good (they can be disassembled to inspect if need be), my next suspect would be the differential.

You can have just one ball in the bearing gone bad an get a clicking sound. I've found that to be true on any front wheel bearing 2wd or 4wd.
