Auto door locking/unlocking

Hello,

I've been searching for a few days and I can't find a solid answer. I think there are some variables in play that haven't been narrowed down to each answer I've been able to locate.

I have a 2001 Limited. I would like the door locks to automatically lock when I shift from park and then automatically unlock when I shift back into park. I know this is a feature that can be turned on/off. I've seen two different methods. One involves turning the ignition to the "on" position and then holding the unlock button for 5 seconds, I have not been able to get that to work.

The second method involves leaving the driver door open and cycling the ignition 5 times and a few other steps.

I think the problem involves whether or not the truck is equipped with the RS3xxx security system or not. I don't believe my truck has that option. Can anyone help me figure out how to narrow down which procedure will work with my truck so I can get that feature enabled?

I'll add that based on what I've been reading, it's entirely possible that the feature may be unique to a vehicle equipped with the RS system but I could be wrong about that.

The only options I saw on the OEM immobilizer was to change the beep volume or eliminate it, I doubt the port installed RS security system was more capable of doing what you want. Do you have a 3rd gen 4runner specific link to these methods you speak of, I've never seen this option/capability.

I too have never seen or heard of this, not to say it can't be done though. I have an 01 SR5. If this can be done, I'd definitely like to do it as well. I didn't know you could change the volume of the beep or even eliminate it altogether. I have whatever the stock security system is, but no idea of the number or anything like that. How exactly can I tell?

Maybe if it is a 3rd gen[1996-2002]. The vehicle has an aftermarket alarm system in it. Just as a thought.

Here's a link to one of the threads I found where it was discussed:

Door Locks; auto unlock?

JFC google failed me... now I see that's in the 4th gen section, not 3rd. Well... still convinced it's possible.

Anything is possible, the question is, do you want to add the complex circuitry in-order to have that feature, even if it was an OEM option, sounds like more wear, tear and complexity for nothing, personally the less wiring the better in my world. @joetr4 If it says you have an immobilizer around the ignition you got the 99+ OEM ECU coded security system and it is impossible to start or program without a paired key, and you can pair no more than 3, US port installed RS3000 is under the driver seat from what I've heard and that's all I know about it.
