Time for new tires (last set big disappointment)
Had a set of Yokohama Geolandar A/T that were great- almost 70kmi or so and lots of desert off roading no probs at all lots of lava air down etc prob few thousand miles of rough off road easy. Then in 2019 I tried new model Geolandar X-AT which wore in centers trash by 30k. Very disappointed and Tire Rack requires install receipt for warranty. Might go back to the Geo A/T but looking for any suggestions. I put larger on 275 instead of 265 I think- some rubbing but no prob. So interested in any suggestions before I buy a new set of something. Thx.

I liked my 265/75 wildpeaks they are offered in SL as well to help save some weight. They were great in just about every situation. If you wanna go MT route I’d recommend the geolander g003s
No experience with them however I hear the new grabber ATXs are pretty good too

Def not getting mud terrain tires. I will look those WildPeaks up not familiar. Thx for the input!
UPDATE- found a great thread re the SL and learned a lot. I do tend to do a lot of rough rocky stuff at times and had D rated but really seemed like overkill. Never saw any real cuts in the sidewalls so maybe I will give those SL a closer look. How long did those WildPeaks last you? wildpeaks SL vs. E rating question. | Tacoma World

They have life left In them but after 40k I switched to MTs. Probably another 20k left on them. The SL sidewalls are fine for rocks. Maybe not bigger stuff but I drop to 10psi and have never had an issue

I'm squarely in the 3 ply sidewall camp. I'm also squarely in the LTE or D tire is overkill in carcass construction since there's never a situation you'll run 60 or 80 psi in a sport utility vehicle.
It sucks that Goodyear quit making a 3 ply sidewall for the duratrac. That tire is really just the right blend for a lot of things.
Another interesting note that I found this week at my brothers shop, was there was a set of takeoff 35 inch tires from a jeep 392 extreme recon. And wouldn't you know, they were a load C 35" tire, with a three ply sidewall..... KO2s 3 ply sidewalls aren't supposed to be available in load C tires.......
I don't know if it's that SKU only, but it's a no shit 3 ply...... read the tire with my own eyes......
So maybe there's some other SKUs for KO2 in load C that are the same situation?
There are some Toyo and nittos all terrains/ hybrid lthat offer a 3 ply sidewall also.
I haven't thrashed a set of SL off-road tires, so I wouldn't know. But the load C grabber X3's have taken an incredible amount of abuse. Aired down always. 14-20psi usually.
The whole you have to have a D or E tire to off-road is nonsense. The real issue is that many of the good offerings only come in a load E.......

I think there are some fallen tires in a 3 ply side. The Toyo AT2 is a 3 ply side also, but may require a 17" fitment. The AT3 is a 2ply sidewall.

I don't see any 285/75/16 AT tires from any brand in a C or SL rating. Only E. You used to be able to find D rated tires in this size. I'm not interested in BFG AT's since they totally suck in the rain and I live in Oregon. I had 2 sets and will not buy another. I've been happy with the durability and tire life of the General Grabber AT2s I've owned and I'm on my 2nd set. They weigh 59lbs in a 285/75/16 E rated tire, as do most other AT tires in this size. From what I can see, I will need to move to a 275/70/17 if I want a lighter tire in the future whilst keeping a 32+" tire. But, the offset is that the wheel size increase also comes with a weight increase, voiding that tire weight reduction. The Falken AT3W 275/70/17 C rated tire weighs 56lbs. The change to a 17x8.5" wheel adds 6+ lbs. per wheel. I'd end up heavier overall. The Grabber AT/X in the 275/70/17 weighs 59 lbs. in an E rating, which seems to be the only way it comes. So, there'd be an even bigger weight penalty than I have now along with a smaller tire.
Unless the C or SL rated tires will improve MPGs due to the tread rubber compound and sidewall compliance, I don't see this as a win.

Appreciate all the feedback- very helpful.
I cannot find any of these on TireRack in load C or SL and many are not even showing sidewall info-
Falken Wildpeak-

Where do you guys buy them?
I may just go w the Geolandars I had before they were fine until trad was super low and began getting flats off road. That was like 70k mi down the road!

I've had incredible results with Cooper tires to include the St Maxx and the AT3 XLT's. They have many different sizes available so you could always try your luck with either of those.

I buy them from Walmart. I find tire racks prices to be kind of a rip off. When I bought mine in 2020 they were having a sale for 86 bucks a tire so I got a set of 5 for less than 500 bucks. Not sure what they are now but I’d see what Walmart has to offer

Tires
Falken Wildpeak AT3W - a no brainer if you live anywhere near snow. Drove the TAT with those and had zero issues - constantly airing up and down across the country.
If you have money to burn - BF Goodrich KO2's.
I'm personally going to try the Kenda Cleaver RT in 33 x 10.5. More aggressive that the Wrangler ATS, but not a total mud tire.

They are not the best in the market, not even close. But a lot of people really really like them.

I always felt they were too stiff. Never bought a new set but ran a used set for a while. I'm not paying that for tires.
