I built a bed platform out of plywood covered in indoor/outdoor no pile carpet and supported by 2x4's. We used this a for a few off-road/camping trips in 2007-09. I think I spent less than $50 on it. It sat right at the wheel well height, full width of the cargo area and allowed for a queen size air mattress. I removed the rear seat backs for a full 6' of length. Some storage underneath was also a thing, but I didn't create drawers. It was super basic and this was before the whole "Overlanding" thing was a thing. It was great for what it was. I had to store it outside, so eventually, it had to be tossed. I'd re-create the same thing if I ever was to do that kind of thing again. But, we're looking at one of those truck bed shaped air mattresses and a vehicle attached tent for a more plush experience with some extra room.
